The power grid managed by Gia Lai Power Transmission (nearly 784 km of lines with voltage levels from 220-500kV, together with two 500kV substations, and one 220kV substation) is an important node in the Vietnamese power system. In addition to the task of connecting the North-South 500kV power system, it is also a power collecting point for hydropower, thermal power, and renewable energy sources in the provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, and Laos friend country.
The Pleiku 500kV substation put into operation in 1994, is a traditional control substation, some of the primary and secondary equipment are old and have been in operation for over 20 years, so the equipment tends to decline in quality and is gradually being replaced.
At this substation, the project "Upgrading the control and protection system of Pleiku 500kV substation" (referred to as the TEP project) is being implemented. The project was started on 19 April 2021, so far, the construction items have been completed, and the secondary item of relay control and protection is being implemented. In addition, there is the project "Synchronously equipping electrical equipment on the grid to ensure safe and reliable operation, at Pleiku 500kV substation". When these projects are completed, they will help reduce the risk of equipment and secondary circuit failures.

The Deputy MOIT requested the Gia Lai province government and relevant agencies continue to coordinate well with the National Power Transmission Corporation, Power Transmission Company 3, and Gia Lai Power Transmission, to strengthen extensive propaganda among the people about the responsibility of protecting the safety of high-voltage grid works.
