In addition to the automatic reading of power consumption data of customers, electronic meters give warnings of abnormalities occurring in meters, substations, etc. which enables operators to early detect and make the best remedial actions to minimize power interruption duration due to failures and to ensure electricity supply in a safe and reliable manner.
Furthermore, the remote reading system helps EVNHANOI forecast load demand, based on which load chart for each area, each district and for the whole city can be developed by month and year, with the aim to develop load chart on a weekly and daily basis. Accordingly, plans on upgrading and rehabilitating power grids in order to ensure safe and reliable electricity supply can be formulated.
According to EVNHANOI, there are currently more than 20,000 large customers and public metering points in the city using GPRS/3G modem installed with the server's IP at the data collection center. This solution allows direct access to the meter for data acquisition at a frequency of 30 minutes/time. With the new technologies currently being adopted by EVNHANOI, customers can monitor their electricity consumption data daily, so that they can actively adjust their electricity usage in the most efficient way.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Head of EVNHANOI's Business Department, said that the installation of electronic meters in replacement of mechanical meters is an indispensable trend, contributing to improving labor productivity and quality of customer service, which thus gains a high consensus of Hanoi people.
By 2020, it is targeted that EVNHANOI will install 100% electronic meters in the inner city and 50% in the suburbs.
