The Earth Hour Campaign is an annual international event hosted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). So far, about 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories in the world have responded to it.
In Vietnam, the Campaign was first held in 2009 and it has created a great popularity after 10 years. From 6 initial cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Can Tho, Hoi An, Hue and Nha Trang, so far, this event has received the response from 63 provinces and cities. With support from organizations, enterprises, particularly the people and mass media.
Experiencing 10 years of implementation, the Campaign in Vietnam has gained many positive results: knowledge in environmental protection has directly or indirectly been spread out to millions of volunteers and residential communities; dozens of projects to improve and newly construct ecological schools have been completed; millions of kilowatt hours have been saved which is equal to billions of Vietnamese dong. But most of all, the effects on energy saving, environmental protection spread throughout the year in the community, society across the country.
As the state-owned enterprise taking main responsibility for ensuring power supply for the country’s socio-economic development and people’s living, EVN is always thoroughly aware of its responsibility to the society. For that reason, strengthening propaganda, calling for the community to use power in saving and effective manner; promoting solutions for energy saving and efficient use, environmental protection is one of the crucial tasks given a top priority to by EVN.
Additionally, EVN has always gone along with Earth Hour Campaign in Vietnam as the main sponsor. Over the past 10 years, EVN has focused on directing all its affiliated units, staffs and employees of the Group to actively participate in Earth Hour Campaign’s activities at agencies and families. The power units have coordinated with one another to organize many events, activities in response to such as: Hanging banners at headquarters; distributing leaflets, posters, printing and distributing free manuals for safe, saving and effective use of power; walking, cycling for campaigns; planting trees; collecting waste and recycling, etc.
