In March and the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam Electricity ensured a safe and continuous power supply, serving socio-economic development and meeting the people's daily needs. In March 2024, power production of the whole system in reached 25.7 billion kWh, an increase of 9.8% over the same period in 2023. Accumulated in the first quarter, power production of the whole system reached 69.4 billion kWh - an increase of 11.8% over the same period in 2023. Output and mobilization proportion of all types of power sources in the whole system in the first quarter are as follows:

+ Hydropower: 10.62 billion kWh, accounting for 15.3%.

+ Coal thermal power: reached 39.99 billion kWh, accounting for 57.6%.

+ Gas turbines: 6.06 billion kWh, accounting for 8.7%.

+ Renewable energy: 11.45 billion kWh, accounting for 16.5% (of which solar power reached 6.61 billion kWh, wind power reached 4.43 billion kWh).

+ Imported electricity: 1.15 billion kWh, accounting for 1.7%.

Transmission power output in March 2024 reached 20 billion kWh. Accumulated in the first quarter of 2024, transmission power output reached 54.36 billion kWh, an increase of 11.17% over the same period in 2023.

In the first quarter of 2024, EVN has also organized the maximal operation of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plants to supplement water sources at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and at the same time ensure power supply for pumping stations and in-field pumping operations to serve the rice cultivation of the Winter-Spring crop 2023 - 2024 for the Northern Midland and Delta provinces. Including 2 water collection periods (10 days) for rice crops, the total amount of water discharged from hydropower reservoirs is 2.78 billion m3 (the first period is 1.893 billion m3, second period is 0.887 billion m3), saving 0.72 billion m3 of water compared to the expected plan.

In March, the Earth Hour Campaign is organized. 2024 was also the 16th time Vietnam actively participated in responding to the theme " Save electricity - Become habit ". After 1 hour of turning off the lights from 8:30p.m to 9:30p.m on 23 March 2024, the whole country saved 428,000 kWh of electricity (equivalent to about VND 858.9 million).

Construction investment: In the first quarter of 2024, EVN leaders have increased site inspections, urged construction progress, and provided materials and equipment for key power projects, typically Quang Trach-Pho Noi 500kV line, circuit 3; projects of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion, Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, Phuoc Thai 2 & 3 Solar Power Plants. In the first quarter, EVN and its units started 25 works and completed energizing and put into operation 22 power grid works from 110 kV to 500 kV, including several important projects such as Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220 kV transmission lines (two circuits), Vinh Hao 220 kV substation, circuit 2 of Cao Bang - Bac Kan 220 kV power line, Pho Cao 220 kV substation and connection, etc.

Some working tasks of EVN in April 2024

With the assessment that the second quarter of every year is the peak time of the dry season and the most stressful time of the year in terms of power supply to the whole system, EVN sets the objectives of ensuring safe and stable operation of the power system and electricity market, meeting electricity demand in the dry season months of the second quarter of 2024.

In April 2024, the average daily power consumption of the whole system is expected to be 865.7 million kWh/day, an increase of 10% over the same period. System operation objective: Continuing to ensure production and supply of power for production, business, and people's daily activities; especially ensuring electricity for the Hung King Commemoration holiday; April 30 - May 1 Holiday. Flexible operating hydropower sources according to incoming water with the target of retaining water to serve power supply during the peak months of the dry season. For coal thermal power and gas turbines: ensuring sufficient fuel for power production according to system needs and maintaining fuel reserve levels by regulations. EVN assigns Power units to work directly with large customers to grasp customers' weekly power needs closely, implements load demand management programs, and contributes to reducing peak capacity during peak hours of the power system, reducing the overload of the power grid and improving the power system operation efficiency.

Regarding construction investment: In April 2024, EVN continues to urge units to concentrate forces at construction sites, and accelerate the construction progress of key power source and grid projects. In the second quarter of 2024, it is expected to generate power for Phuoc Thai 2 & 3 Solar Power projects; complete energization of projects: Nhon Trach 4 500kV power line - branch to Phu My - Nha Be, 220kV power line temporarily connected to Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant, Hai Duong - Pho Noi 220kV power line, Huoi Quang - Nghia Lo 220kV power line and effort to carry out construction and installation of the Quang Trach - Pho Noi circuit 3 500kV power line, striving to complete according to the required schedule, etc.

To reduce difficulties in operating the power system during dry season months and prolonged hot weather, minimizing the risk of electrical incidents due to increased electricity demand - especially in the North, EVN hopes to continue to receive the sharing and active coordination of people, offices, and manufacturing enterprises in using electricity safely and economically during peak lunch hours (from 12:00 am to 3:00 pm), peak evening hours (from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.); at the same time, pay attention to the appropriate use of air conditioning (set at 26 - 27 degrees or higher, use in combination with fans) and do not use many high-capacity electrical appliances at the same time, etc.
