Regarding coal supply to electricity generation, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to request coal fired thermal power plant owners under Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Petro Vietnam (PVN), Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) to consider coal demand required for electricity generation in the current time and in the future (considering both domestic coal resource and coal import so as to prepare a specific plan for securing adequate fuel for plants’ operation).
In addition, Vinacomin, Dong Bac Corporation and other enterprises who have been licensed for coal mining, production and business, to review and calculate their coal supply capacity (including domestic production and import) to meet requirements of thermal power plants and other consumers in order to establish a concrete plan on coal exploiting and importing, securing sufficient and stable coal supply to thermal power plants.
At the same time, in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, Vinacomin and relevant organizations have been researching and calculating potentials of other coal sources for exploration and exploitation (including the study of Red river delta coal basin, etc.) with the aim of proposing approaches and solutions to secure sufficient coal supply to meet the demand for development in the future.
Coal suppliers (Vinacomin, Dong Bac Corporation and other organizations) have been working with EVN to develop a plan for long term and stable coal supply to meet requirements of coal fired thermal power plants of EVN according to the current legal regulations.
The Prime Minister agreed that Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation can import coal by themselves to meet requirements for their thermal power plant operation.
