Trung Son Hydropower Project with the total investment cost of more than USD 410 million   is located on Ma river in Trung Son commune, Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province. The project’s main tasks are to supply electricity to the national power network, to contribute to flood prevention in rainy seasons, to supply water in dry seasons for Thanh Hoa province, to facilitate and promote local socio-economic development, to sustain national defense and security for West region of Thanh Hoa province.

According to Mr. Vu Huu Phuc – President and CEO of Trung Son Hydropower One Member Limited Liability Company, this is the first large scale hydropower project in Vietnam being financed by the World Bank. Therefore, in addition to Vietnam legal regulations to be compulsorily complied with, the project must respect the WB’s regulations with regards to quality control, implementation schedule, strict requirements on environmental protection, livelihoods, labor safety, etc.

Trung Son Hydropower Plant has been thoroughly designed, the project pre-investment phase followed the best practices in the world on investigations, surveys, technical design, analysis of options, supervision, study, calculations in order to meet stringent requirements on environmental, social and dam safety aspects.

From environmental perspective, the Project is beneficial in green-house gas emission mitigation in comparison with fossil fuel thermal power plants with the same capacity size.

At the same time, this is one of the important prerequisites to ensure the completion and operation schedule of the remaining power units before the dry season of 2017, in order to supply a great amount of electricity output (more than 1 billion kWh/year) to the power system, contributing to the national energy security.

In the coming time, all the workforces of contractors, consultants, project management board, etc. will strive for the whole project accomplishment by August 2017.
