Excellent accomplishment of mission
In 2016, EVN faced a lot of difficulties such as: In the beginning of the year, hydropower reservoirs experienced great shortages of water amount which was equivalent to around 2.5 billion kWh; hydropower plants curtailed their power generation in order to reserve water for downstream irrigations at the local authorities’ requests; storms and floods caused damages estimated at hundreds of billions VND; foreign exchange rate fluctuated; coal prices for power generation climbed up from 2015, etc. Nonetheless, by adopting many flexible and drastic solutions, EVN excellently accomplished their targeted assignments. This was the third consecutive year that Vietnam power system had capacity reserve.
Specifically, the electricity output internally generated and purchased was 176.99 billion kWh, rising by 10.8% against 2015. The power sales reached 159.45 billion kWh, increasing by 11.0% against 2015 and 350 million kWh higher than the targeted plan, of which the domestic power sales were estimated at 158.3 billion kWh, growing by 11.2%. EVN completed and put into operation 5 generation units with the total capacity of 2,305 MW, in which Lai Chau hydropower plant was accomplished one year ahead of its original schedule and thus benefited EVN approximately VND 7,000 billion; commissioned and energized 297 projects and commenced constructions of 314 110 - 500 kV network projects; completing electrification projects for many island communes, mountainous and remote areas all over the country. EVN gained remarkable achievements in mitigating power loss rate down to 7.7%, enhancing power supply reliability, and improving customer satisfaction. In particular, access-to-electricity duration declined to 6.52 days, playing a part in bringing access-to-electricity ratio of Vietnam upward 5 levels compared to 2015.

Considerately performing social security and environment protection activities
In 2016, EVN well undertook their social security and environmental protection activities, which were acknowledged by the Prime Minister to be one of five highlights of EVN in 2016.
EVN coordinated with the irrigation sector in providing more than 3 billion m3 water to cultivations in the Northern Delta, sufficiently met water demand for production and living, salinity treatment for the Centre and Central Highlands in the dry season. In particular, the power system had been recovered quickly after rains, storms, floods, etc., and more than 650 ha of rice of Spring Water harvest in the North had been rescued, which significantly contributed to the agricultural sector.
In 2016, EVN performed a lot of practical social security activities with the total amount of more than VND 186.7 billion; typically building a multi-purpose cultural house in Truong Sa island district; building schools, traffic works, irrigation works in difficult regions; continued to implement Program 30a to support 3 poor districts in Lai Chau province; financially supported people in natural calamity region; nourished Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, etc.
In view of environmental protection, EVN reviewed emission situations of coal fired thermal power plants; implemented projects for rehabilitating and upgrading waste discharge systems in order to improve environmental indicators on water, dust, smoke; actively handled coal residues, ash, etc. In particular, EVN brought into operation community houses in some thermal power plants, and regularly organized visits for people living in the surrounding areas to the plants every month, which helped the community understand better the power generation line as well as environmental protection activities, etc.
Based on these achievements, in 2017, EVN shall continue to invest in and promote science and technology applications with the aim of sufficiently supplying electricity to the socio-economic development and people’s residential uses.
