At present, most of the electricity for residential uses and production activities in Da Nang city is supplied from the North – South 500kV high voltage transmission line going through step down 110 kV, 220 kV transmission substations. According to a Study for revising the general planning of Da Nang city up to 2030 with vision to 2050 that has been considered and approved by the Government, it is envisaged that the population of Da Nang city will be approximately 2 million people by the year 2030, increasing by 60% compared to the current population. Consequently the power consumption demand in Da Nang will be increasing quickly in the years to come.
“PC Da Nang has been well prepared right from now on for meeting the demand speculated in the Study. The Company will invest around VND 2,300 billion in constructing and upgrading the power system in the whole city in the period 2016 - 2020” – said Deputy Director of PC Da Nang Mr. Vo Hoa.
As planned, the finance for performing the plan shall come from ODA loans extended by such international financial institutions as JICA, ADB, WB and the Investment and Development Fund of the city. The money shall be equally allocated in the years to come for investing in constructing power generation sources and power grids. Particularly, as for 110kV power network, 20 km power line, 8 substations with the total installed capacity of 400 MVA will be newly constructed, 18 km of the existing power line shall be rehabilitated and upgraded, 6 substations in critical positions of the city will be upgraded and uprated. As for medium and low voltage network, approximately 900 km 22kV and 0.4 kV power lines will be upgraded and newly built.
According to the statistics of PC Da Nang, during the period 2011 - 2015, the power consumption demand in the city had grown an average of 11% per year. It is forecasted that this growth rate will be constant from now until end of 2020, and after that it will be higher during the period 2020 - 2030.
