Deligates pressing buttons to complete the project powering Nhon Chau Island via submarine cables.
Hoang Quoc Vuong – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) said, powering remote districts, hamlets, villages, borderlands and islands is an important mission fulfilled by MOIT, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and localities. Despite limited capital financed by the State budget, MOIT actively mobilized sources, including non-refundable ODA from EU to finance power projects, including the Project of powering Nhon Chau via submarine cables.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong, Deputy Minister of MOIT, praises EVN/EVNCPC for having effectively implemented the Project.
The project powering Nhon Chau Island Commune from the national power system via submarine cables has been invested with nearly VND351.5 billion (of which VND280 billion was financed by EU and the rest was counterpart funding by EVNCPC).
The scope of the project included four key work items, including a 22kV single-circuit submarine cable route with a length of over 10km, connecting from Hoa An 22kV switching station (Xuan Hoa Commune, Song Cau Town, Phu Yen Province) to Nhon Chau Island commune (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province).
Executing the policy of modernizing and investing into smart power grids of EVN, EVNCPC has installed at every household on the island a smart electronic meter equipped with remote automatic meter reading technology via RF and 3G waves. The whole distribution network on the island is managed on a digital map.
EVN’s General Director Tran Dinh Nhan delivering a speech at the ceremony
“With the completion of this project, EVN has invested in powering 11/12 district islands, 81/85 commune islands up to now. All communes and 99.52% of households nation-wide have been powered via national grid system, including 100% of communes and 99.88% of households in Binh Dinh Province”, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan said.
Chairman of People’s Committee of Binh Dinh Province Ho Quoc Dung affirmed that completion of the project realized the dream and wish of locals in the outpost island commune of Nhon Chau on using continuous and steady power from the national power network. Thus, it facilitates to restructure the local production, motivates poverty reduction, improve material and spiritual life of 600 households with around 3,000 residents meanwhile contributing to stabilizing politics, maintaining security and national defense; and defending the territorial and maritime sovereignty.
Mr. Giorgio Aliberti – Ambassador cum Head of EU Delegation to Vietnam appreciated Vietnam’s great achievements on electrification, with over 99% of population accessing a stable power source at reasonable cost.
Aliberti said that energy is one of the fields under a close co-operation between EU and Vietnam. The first energy program of EU focused on increasing access to sustainable energies in rural areas of Vietnam. The submarine cable route for powering Nhon Chau Island is a tangible result and proof of success via co-operation among EU, MOIT, EVN and local authorities.
4 key work items of the project:
- Installation of a 22kV feeder bay at 110kV Song Cau transformer substation and a 22kV power line on the mainland in Song Cau town (Phu Yen Province) with a length of over 12km;
- Construction of a 22kV single-circuit submarine cable route with a length of over 10km, connecting 22kV Hoa An switching station (Xuan Hoa Commune, Song Cau Town) to Nhon Chau Island Commune;
- Installation of a power network in Nhon Chau Island (an aerial 22kV power line with a length of nearly 1km, two 22/0.4kV distribution substations with a total capacity of 650kVA and a 0.4kV low voltage line with a length of 4.6km)
- Installation of an optical cable system with a length of over 12km connecting mainland and the island in order to serve livelihood as well as in operating the power network.
