The project consists of two outdoor 3-phase transformers of 220/110/22kV with capacity of 250 MVA. At this phase, a 220 kV- 250 MVA transformer and related control, protection, measurement and communication systems were installed.
This project was rated Energy Project Level 1, group B, with total investment of VND445.268 billion, invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT). NPMB manages the project on behalf of EVNNPT; Power Transmission Company No.1 would be empowered to operate the substation upon energization. The project was constructed in the area of Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province with the whole area of 41,039 m2.
The operation of Than Uyen 220kV substation would supply power to Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province and its neighborhoods, and simultaneously, transmit the output of hydro power stations in Lao Cai, Lai Chau to the national power system, increasing the stability and safety of the power grid.
Earlier on 03 January 2016, the 220kV transmission line connected to the substation was energized. The line with two 220kV circuits in a total length of 24.26 km were connected from the current 220kV line of Ban Chat- Huoi Quang to Than Uyen 220kV substation.
