Vung Ang - Ba Don - Dong Hoi 220 kV line consisting of 2 circuits with a total length of 84.6 km passes Ky Anh district (Ha Tinh province), the districts of Quang Trach, Bo Trach, Dong Hoi city (Quang Binh). In which, Vung Ang - Ba Don section is 41.1 km long, Ba Don - Dong Hoi section is 43.5km long, only Fomosa 220 kV line is designed with one circuit of 0.7 km long connecting to the towers No.171-172 of the existing Ha Tinh - Dong Hoi 220 kV line.
Vung Ang - Ba Don - Dong Hoi 220 kV transmission line project is one of the projects listed as urgent need approved by the Government in 2014. The project will contribute to absorbing the capacity of Vung Ang 1 Thermal power plant and Fomosa Ha Tinh power plant, then transmiting it to the national power system, supply power for Ba Don 220 kV substation and enhance reliability, reducing losses of the transmission grid in the Northern Central region.
Ba Don 220 kV substation is built in Tien Phong village, Quang Long Ward, Ba Don Town, Quang Binh province. It is designed for installation of two 220 kV transformers, at this phase, one 220 kV transformer - 125 MVA will be installed first.
The project is invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVN NPT) with VND824.4 billion to build Vung Ang - Ba Don - Dong Hoi 220 kV line and over VND260 billion to build Ba Don 220 kV substation. CPMB represents the investor to manage the Project.
The completion of the project has enormous significance i.e it connects the 220 kV transmission line from North to South, enhance capacity of power transmission from North - Central - South up to about 300 MW. Simultaneously, it helps to enhance the capacity for peak load of Quang Binh province and surrounding areas and improve significantly the reliability of the power system in North Central region.
