Reviewing the progress of Northern transmission power grid projects in the period 2022-2025

On 30 August 2022, in Hanoi, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) – Mr. Pham Hong Phuong chaired a meeting to review the progress of Northern transmission power grid projects in the period 2022-2025.

Currently, Power Projects Management Board 1 is implementing 3 projects, including 2 projects to release the Northwest hydropower source. Specifically, the Lao Cai 500kV substation and connections were started on 21 April 2022, it is expected to complete the 220kV distribution yard and connected 220kV lines in 2023, complete the 500kV distribution yard and install 500kV transformers in 2024.

The Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV power line project is scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of 2023 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024. Currently, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has submitted to the Prime Minister a report on the appraisal results for investment policy approval. However, the project is having problems related to the conversion of forest land use purposes, so there is a high risk of not achieving the planned progress.

Serving the import of power from Laos, Power Projects Management Board 1 is implementing the Nam Mo - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line project (section in the territory of Vietnam). The project started on 28 November 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.

In the period 2022-2025, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) is assigned to start 70 projects and complete 76 projects. In addition, EVNNPT is also implementing other projects to meet the needs of socio-economic development in the period after 2025 (expected to start 12 projects and complete 33 projects).

At the meeting, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Pham Hong Phuong requested each unit to make more efforts, closely following ministries, branches, and localities to implement projects. For projects to release the power source, EVN Deputy General Director Pham Hong Phuong requested that the units need to review the detailed and specific progress, each item to have a suitable construction plan to meet the planned schedule.
