Southern thermal power plants operating at maximum capacity in dry season’s peak times

In order to promptly "release" the growing pressure of power supply due to high grow of load in dry season’s peak, EVN's coal-fired thermal power plants in the South are mobilized at maximum capacity for the system, with ready preparation made by the management units.

Promptly growing demand of power

EVN forecasts that the load growth rate of total system in quarter II/2018 will be about 12.5% compared to the same period of 2017. In particular, in the peak period from May to June 2018, the average load can reach 650 million kWh/day, 290 million kWh/day for the South alone.

Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company – the unit managing operation of thermal power plants under Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO 1) at Duyen Hai Power Center (Tra Vinh province) - is operating at the maximum capacity of 3/4 generating units (total capacity of 1,867.5MW) meeting the highest mobilization from the National Load Dispatch Center. Mr. Nguyen Huu Phien - Director of the company said: Engineers, workers are mobilized at 100% of the working force, implements the regime of 3 shifts 5 teams, being on-duty at machineries, furnaces all the time. At present, the remaining unit (622.5 MW) is conducting the maintenance, the Company and contractor arranged a force to continuously work even on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to promptly put the unit back to operation so as to meet the increasing demand of load during the dry seasons’ peak.

To ensure power supply, EVNGENCO 1 and Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company have carefully considered the scenario of operation and fully prepared coal source for power generation. For Duyen Hai 1 Thermal Power, Power Generation Corporation 1 has signed a selling and purchasing contract with TKV and Dong Bac Corporation to ensure that the coal warehouse is always fully stored. For Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power using imported coal, there are always at least 2 contractors supplying coal for EVNGENCO 1, ensuring to further supply 1 million tons of coal in quarter II/2018 for power generation.

The company also specially complies with requirements for environmental protection during its operation. All environmental emission parameters are transmitted to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tra Vinh province. The emission parameters of Duyen Hai 1, Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plants are currently within the allowable limits as regulated.
