Strengthen cooperation between EVN and WB in renewable energy field

On October 3, in Hanoi, the Chairman of EVN’s Board of Directors Dang Hoang An welcomed and worked with Ms. Carolyn Turk - World Bank (WB) Country Director in Vietnam and the WB delegation. The two sides discussed expansion promoting cooperative activities between EVN and WB, including the field of renewable energy.

At the meeting, Ms. Carolyn Turk - WB Country Director in Vietnam proposed EVN cooperation ideas in the energy field such as floating solar power installation in Vietnam; electricity import project from Laos to Vietnam; and offshore wind power and pumped storage hydropower development cooperation.

Ms. Carolyn Turk said that the World Bank has a lot of experience in supporting the energy transition process of many countries, especially in finance and engineering. With that experience, the WB wishes to continue supporting EVN in developing renewable energy sources such as pumped storage hydropower, solar power, and offshore wind power, etc.

Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors Dang Hoang An respectfully thanked and appreciated the WB's proposals for EVN in particular and the energy industry in general. EVN always values and desires to continue to receive support and assistance from the WB, not only in terms of financial resources but also policy advice, technical assistance, experience, and vision, so that EVN can realize its development goals.

EVN leaders emphasized that with the potential ideas mentioned by the WB, EVN shall seriously consider appropriate content to realize them shortly.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged and discussed related contents such as challenges of the energy industry in general and EVN in particular; the cooperation plan between EVN and WB; WB's recommendations to ensure sustainability in the financial mechanism of the Power sector; and solutions to convert coal thermal power to clean energy sources, etc.
