The project has a total investment of nearly VND 600 billion, which is invested by EVNHCMC. Tan Cang 220/110kV substation started construction in March 2021, with the construction scale of 2 220/110kV transformers with a capacity of 2 x 250MVA; 2 110/24kV transformers with a capacity of 2 x 63MVA with automatic protection control system, security surveillance camera, modern fire protection system. Especially, Tan Cang 220/110kV substation is built with modern technology, using GIS (Gas Insulation Switchgear) equipment on 110kV and 220kV sides.

The 110kV line connecting to Tan Cang 220/110kV substation was started in March 2019, with the scale of 4 110kV underground cable lines: Tan Cang – Xa lo, Tan Cang – Thao Dien, Tan Cang – Metro Tan Cang, Tan Port - Binh Thai. The 110kV power line connected to the Tan Cang 220/110kV substation was energized, tested, and put into operation synchronously with Tan Cang 220/110kV substation.
Tan Cang 220/110kV substation and 110kV power lines connected to Tan Cang 220kV substation is one of the particularly important projects to ensure power supply to key areas of Ho Chi Minh City such as Thu Duc city, Thu Thiem new urban area, especially to ensure power supply for Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien No. 1 Metro line. At the same time, Tan Cang 220/110kV substation also increases capacity for Binh Thanh district, Phu Nhuan district, District 1, and District 3.
