Supply power to village

The journey of supplying power to light up the Dien Bien highland village is being determinedly carried out by districts in the Dien Bien province with the target of removing the no-electricity village. Diverse in ways of doing things, propagandizing, campaigning, and connecting support sources, people in many highland villages in Dien Bien have seen electric light and used electrical equipment, creating motivation to escape poverty.

Supplying the power grid to highland and border areas makes an important contribution to economic restructuring, improving the material, cultural, and spiritual life of people of all ethnic groups. Supplying power to the village helps people have the opportunity to access science and technology, and learn experience in production and livestock raising to escape poverty.

By the end of January this year, Vietnam Electricity and its member units had supplied power to 129/129 communes, wards, and towns throughout the province. The proportion of households using the national power grid reached 93.75%, of which 91.7% of rural households were connected to the national power grid. Enabling highland and border villages to use the national power grid is a target that localities are determined to achieve.

Removing the no-electricity village has been issued by the Party Committee of Dien Bien Dong district for the 2020 - 2025 term, with a separate resolution with the target that by the end of 2025, all 198 villages in the district will have access to the national power grid.

Not only that, District leaders directly asked Ho Chi Minh City to support poor districts in supplying power to highland villages. With that call, Ho Chi Minh City has supported Dien Bien Dong district construction of a power supply work to light up highland villages worth VND 50 billion. With the support of Ho Chi Minh City, in 2024 Dien Bien Dong district will carry out the construction of 10 national grid power supply works for 13 villages in communes: Chieng So, Tia Dinh, Phi Nhu, Muong Luan, Pu Nhi, Xa Dung, Keo Lom.

Dien Bien Dong district has 21 more villages with 1,364 households using the national power grid by the end of 2023.

Diversifying methods, mobilizing support sources and investment capital from the national target program to build new rural areas, sustainably reduce poverty, with the target of 100% of villages accessing the power grid with more than 95% of households using electricity by 2025 of Dien Bien Dong district will be successful. With this result, Dien Bien Dong strives to become the leading locality in the province in removing no-electricity villages.

Contributing to perfecting the criteria for building new rural areas, youth union members across the province launched the program "Lighting up countryside" using solar lights installed in highland and border villages. The Youth Union implemented the program in Muong Ang district according to 3-in-1 standards with the installation of 225 solar lamp posts and, handing out national flags and propaganda posters to people. The work has a total value of over VND 350 million funded by the District Regional Program in 24 villages in the communes: Ang To, Ngoi Cay, Muong Dang, and Ang Cang.

“Lighting up countryside” work in Chan III village, Ngoi Cay commune was completed by youth union members at the end of April, including 30 solar lamp posts lighting up 1.5km of the village's road. Right at the border commune of Pa Thom, Dien Bien district, the 300m border line has been installed solar lights in the 2024 Border March program. At Cang village, Chieng So commune, Dien Bien Dong district, the Provincial Youth Union in coordination with Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Company installed 35 solar lamp posts along the route of more than 1km, worth VND 125 million.

Implementing the program "Lighting up Countryside", the Provincial Youth Union has mobilized businesses, benefactors, and the participation of youth union members to contribute labor and transport materials to construct lamp posts to light up highland villages. From 2023 until now, the whole province has constructed 34 works "Lighting up countryside", 58km long with a total value of over VND 1.7 billion.
