The second unit of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant Project was successfully synchronized with the national power grid

The second unit under Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant Project was successfully synchronized with the national power grid on October 03, 2017. This was an important milestone towards the completion of testing, commissioning and putting the second unit into commercial operation expectedly in June 2018.

After only 3 months from the successful synchronization of the first unit, the second unit of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant was successfully synchronized with the grid.

Before the second unit of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant being synchronized, environmental protection systems such as flue gas desulfurization system by seawater (FGD), electrostatic precipitator system (ESP) were put into operation right from the boiler burning. Therefore, works to meet environment requirements have been implemented in compliance with regulations right in the testing process as well as later on when the power plant comes into operation officially.

Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Project is owned by Vietnam Electricity. Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVNGENCO 3) is the project management consultant. Vinh Tan Thermal Power Project Management Board is the representative of project management consultant, taking direct responsibilities for project management. The consortium "Doosan - Mitsubishi – Power Engineering Consulting JSC 2 - Pacific Group JSC" is the project’s main contractor.

Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant is one of five thermal power plants in Vinh Tan Power Complex, located in Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province, 250 km north from Ho Chi Minh City. The project was approved by the Prime Minister, included in the Master Plan for National Power Development No. VII and in the list of urgent investment projects for the period 2013 - 2020.

Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant Project consists of two units with a capacity of 600 MW per each and a total installed capacity of 1200 MW. The annual electricity generation output is estimated at 7.2 billion kWh. The total investment cost of the project is over VND 36,000 billion. This is the first large scale coal fired power plant in Vietnam using supercritical boiler technology. When coming into operation, Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant will make an important contribution to ensuring electricity supply for socio - economic development in the South Central region and at the same time helping improving the reliability, stability and economic operation of the national power system.
