To improve reliability in power supply

In order to comprehensively fulfill the 5-year plan (2016-2020), one of EVN's important goals in 2020 is to reduce System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) to 400 minutes. This is a really complicated problem when the isn’t any backup power source, the load is constantly increasing.

Reduction in failures

As required by EVN, one of the solutions that units shall take solutions to drastically implement improving the reliability of power supply is to reduce incidents at all stages, from generation, transmission to distribution. Accordingly, power plants must ensure operation at more than 7,200 hours/year; usability ratio of coal-fired thermal power plants reach over 78% and gas-fired thermal power plants is at over 98%. The transmission and distribution grid must operate safely and reliably without subjective incidents. In particular, the units must enhance inspection at and consolidation of electricity grids, ensuring safe and reliable power supply; fully prepare supplies, equipment, manpower, and handle incidents quickly; minimize power outage when repairing, maintaining and implementing power projects.

Promoting the application of modern science and technology

In 2020, the units under EVN will accelerate the application of scientific and technological achievements in the fields of management and operation. Specifically, automation and remote-control technology continues to be strengthened so as to remotely monitor the grid. When any incident occurs, operating engineers will immediately operate in distance, isolate and localize the incidents, ensuring that the power outage range is minimal. The units enhance the application of hotline electricity repair technology, contributing to reducing customers' blackout time.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC), the unit is efficiently operating all the 110kV substations in unmanned model; 100% of medium voltage networks are monitored and controlled remotely (mini Scada), contributing to quickly isolating and solving incidents on the grid. Especially, EVNHCMC applies software to supervise employees in handling and repairing electricity incidents. The whole process of troubleshooting, from the receipt of the request to its completion, locking the working tickets are all conducted on the Internet. The software also identifies the exact location of worker teams working in the field, thereby assigning tasks to the nearest team, both saving travel time and contributing to improving labour productivity, especially, shortening troubleshooting time for customers.

In addition, EVN's member units promote the propagation of power saving; closely coordinate with the People's Committees of provinces and cities in implementing the Grid Load Adjustment Program, contributing to raising the sense and responsibility among the community in economical and efficient use of electric power.

Facing difficulties and challenges, due to the fact that water volume in the hydroelectric reservoirs is expected to be low in 2020, the demand for power is constantly increasing, etc. However, EVN and its member units will be determined to synchronously implement solutions, ensuring safe and reliable power supply and fulfilling targets on power supply index for the 2016-2020 period.
