Da Nang Power Company has successfully exploited automatically collecting and metering data

Not only completing the modernization of the metering system in an early manner, Da Nang Power One Member Limited Liability Company (Da Nang PC) has also been considered as the first company successfully exploiting the automatically collecting and metering data; developing utilities to help customers monitor and control their daily electricity consumption.

Da Nang PC is introducing the daily electricity billing data lookup system to customers

Data of 100% of meters are remotely collected

As of the end of August 2019, all meters on the distribution network in Da Nang City have been electronic meters with automatic meter reading function, having the online metering rate approaching 100%. Da Nang PC has become one of the first power companies in the whole EVN Group to successfully shift from the manual metering method to automation and digitalization method.

According to Deputy Director of Da Nang PC Tran Nguyen Bao An, for over 5 years the Company has focused its resources on realizing the roadmap for modernizing the metering system.

Accordingly, at each public substation, there is a data concentrator unit (DCU), a Mesh meter that collects data from surrounding RF electronic meters in a mesh pattern (spider web) in an intelligent, automatic, pre-programmed timing manner. The system is capable of collecting parameters such as electricity metering data, voltages, and currents to calculate electricity bills for residential customers, checking and detecting losses, electricity theft, detecting abnormal status of the metering system.

Along with the installation of the automatic meter reading system, Da Nang PC has put into operation a HES Server system in order to monitor and evaluate the strength of RF waves; detecting meters with interrupted signals, etc.; thereby ensuring the efficient and accurate operation during 24/24h of the automatic meter reading system on the citywide power grid.

The automatic meter reading system is effectively exploited by the Company in load forecasting, serving technical management, operation and planning of the power grids to ensure a safe and uninterrupted electricity supply in the whole city.

Offering many utilities for customers

By remotely collected and online updated metering data, the Company has published information on the website: https://qlcvpcdn.cpc.vn.

Customers only need to visit the website, sign up an account so that they can easily track, control their electricity consumption in a day, and their accumulated electricity consumption in a period. The company has used a tool to help provisionally estimate the daily electricity cost, which helps customers better manage their financial situation. “The use of automated technology in metering and publishing data online makes electricity consumers feel better the transparency, give them more comfort and higher satisfaction with the accuracy of electricity bill calculation”, said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - President of Vietnam Consumer Protection Association.

Since the third quarter of 2019, the Company has provided an additional utility of automatically alerting electricity consumption amount via email. Accordingly, when customers use electricity exceeding a certain amount or a predetermined percentage or level (10%, 20%, etc.) compared to the same period last year/previous month, the system will automatically send notification emails to customers for their information and timely adjustments. This function is especially important in helping customers detect abnormally high power consumption cases when the weather changes, or electricity leakage, electric shocks after power meters. Thanks to that, supporting customers to consume electricity efficiently and safely.

According to General Director of Central Power Corporation Ngo Tan Cu, from the success of the model deployed in Da Nang PC, the Corporation is considering to replicate it to all other member power companies. Thereby, making electricity metering data and electricity bill public and transparent; at the same time, bringing modern services and utilities to customers in 13 provinces of the Central – Central Highlands region
