What's new in Earth Hour 2020?

The main event of Earth Hour 2020 will take place from 20:30 - 21:30 Saturday, March 28, 2020. Unlike every year, Earth Hour this year will shift its focus from "Climate Change" to "Loss of biodiversity".

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the earth is now facing a serious problem that threatens the survival of species, including humans, which is the loss of biodiversity and the natural environment. In just over 40 years, the vertebrate population has declined by more than 60%; the climate has become unstable, rivers have dried up, land has become arid and forests have been empty.

Therefore, Earth Hour 2020 calls for the commitment of the Government, related ministries and agencies to efforts in order to reverse negative impacts on biodiversity, creating the basis for initiatives and response actions of businesses and people through changes in consumer behaviors related to energy, disposable plastic and illegal wildlife.

With the message "Changing consumer behaviors for a healthy ecosystem", Earth Hour 2020 urges people and businesses to join hands in the followings: Economical, efficient use of energy, with priority given to the use of renewable energy; minimizing the use of one-time plastic products and using them only when necessary; not consuming illegal wildlife products.

Due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, WWF encourages communities to respond to the Earth Hour 2020 Campaign online or at home, with simple and practical actions.

The Earth Hour 2020 campaign in Vietnam is organized by WWF-Vietnam under the sponsor of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
