Updated information at 5:00 p.m. on September 17, 2024, on storm No. 3 (Yagi) and flood impact in Northern provinces on power operation and supply

1. Status of restoring high-voltage power grid operations:

- 500kV power grid: 14/14 incidents have been restored.

The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) said that the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi (inaugurated on August 29, 2024) had no incidents and was basically not damaged by storm No. 3 Yagi. Recently, the 500kV power lines that had incidents due to the impact of storm Yagi were mainly concentrated in the areas of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces/cities.

- 220kV power grid: 10/10 substation and 38/40 power line incidents have been restored. For the two remaining 220kV power line incidents, the restoration is expected to be completed on September 18.

- 110kV power grid: 101/104 110kV substation and 186/190 110kV power line incidents have been restored.

2. Situation of restoring medium and low-voltage grids operation and power supply to customers:

Due to the impact of strong storm winds and circulation after the storm, many distribution power lines and substations in many Northern provinces and cities have had incidents. The circulation after storm No. 3 caused heavy rain and flooding in 17 Northern provinces (Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Bac Kan, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong) causing power outages for many customers. In addition to the power grid’s damage, many areas flooded with deep water must be temporarily isolated from operation to ensure electrical safety for customers.

With the urgency and great efforts of the units under Northern Power Corporation and the active support of Central Power Corporation and Hanoi Power Corporation, by 5:00 p.m. on September 17, 1,640/1,678 medium-voltage power lines affected by storms had been restored. By the afternoon of September 17, power supply had been restored to more than 6.03/6.1 million customers affected by storms and floods (equivalent to a rate of nearly 99%).

By September 17, the power supply restoration to localities affected by storms and floods had been basically completed. In Quang Ninh province alone, basic power supply to cities and districts had been restored at a rate of over 85% of the load.

Power units in the North continue to urgently mobilize human resources, vehicles, materials, and equipment to make efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and restore power supply to customers affected by storms and floods as quickly as possible while ensuring safety requirements. To quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters and urgently restore power supply to customers affected by storms and floods, the Central Power Corporation has dispatched a total of 273 staff (from 6 power companies including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai) and the Hanoi Power Corporation has dispatched a total of 200 staff to Quang Ninh province to support the restoration of the power grid.
