On April 30, 2026, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), in coordination with the National Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB) and relevant units, successfully energized shunt capacitor banks at 16 substations of 220–500kV in Northern Vietnam. The project was completed on schedule in accordance with EVN Party Committee’s Resolution No. 31-NQ/DU dated March 21, 2026, which required completion within April 2026.

The completed works are part of the project “Installation of additional 110kV shunt capacitor banks on the Northern transmission grid in 2026,” implemented within the premises of existing substations, including:
- Thuong Tin 500kV Substation, Thuong Tin Commune, Hanoi
- Tay Hanoi 500kV Substation, Hung Dao Commune, Hanoi
- Dong Anh 500kV Substation, Thu Lam Commune, Hanoi
- Pho Noi 500kV Substation, Dai Dong Commune, Hung Yen Province

This is a Grade II energy project (Group B), invested by EVNNPT, with NPTPMB acting on behalf of the investor in managing and operating the project.
According to NPTPMB leadership, the project faced numerous challenges from the preparation stage due to large procedural requirements, tight timelines, and wide implementation across multiple localities. During construction, difficulties also arose from power outage arrangements and the need to work in energized environments under strict safety requirements.

The completion of shunt capacitor installation at 16 substations contributes to enhancing power supply capacity for Northern Vietnam ahead of the peak summer season, improving system stability, reducing power and energy losses, and thereby increasing EVN’s operational efficiency. This is also a practical outcome in implementing directives from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and EVN to ensure electricity supply for the region.

The project also serves as a meaningful activity commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2026) and the 140th International Workers’ Day (May 1, 1886 – May 1, 2026).
