The People's Committee of Vinh Long Province has approved the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) as the investor for the Mo Cay – My Tho 220kV Transmission Line Project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

According to Decision No. 6612/QD-UBND issued by the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, the project aims to transmit electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, in Vietnam's southwestern region to the power grid.

Once completed, the project will help reduce loading and prevent overloading on existing transmission lines, ensuring a reliable power supply to Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces. It will also strengthen regional grid interconnections, improve voltage quality, reduce power losses, and enhance power supply reliability.

The project involves the construction of a new 36.23km double-circuit 220kV overhead transmission line connecting the  Mo Cay 220kV Substation to the My Tho 500/220kV Substation.

Of the total length, approximately 25.37km will run through Vinh Long Province, passing through six communes: Mo Cay, Tan Thanh Binh, Phuoc My Trung, Vinh Thanh, Tien Thuy, and Tan Phu. The remaining 10.86km will pass through Dong Thap Province, crossing two communes: Vinh Kim and Binh Trung.

The project will also involve the installation of equipment for two 220kV line bays at the Mo Cay 220kV Substation and two 220kV line bays at the My Tho 500/220kV Substation. These bays will be installed in areas already reserved for future expansion within the premises of the two substations.

The project has a total investment capital of over VND 923 billion, with an operational term of 50 years from the date the investor is allocated land, leased land, or granted permission to change the land-use purpose.

According to the implementation plan, the project will be carried out during the 2026–2028 period. The construction investment feasibility study report is expected to be prepared and approved between October and December 2026. Land-related procedures, land acquisition, compensation, site clearance, and resettlement are scheduled to take place from December 2026 to December 2027. Construction is expected to commence in June 2027, with project completion scheduled for December 2028.
