From remote ethnic villages deep in the Central Highlands to border communities in Tuy Duc Commune, Lam Dong Province, access to the national power grid has brought profound changes to the lives of ethnic minority communities. Beyond providing electricity to every household, reliable power has enabled greater access to science and technology, transformed production practices, and gradually turned people's aspirations for sustainable poverty reduction into reality.

Mr. Doan Minh Thuan, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Quang Truc Commune, emphasized that expanding electricity access has played an important role in improving living standards and promoting socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas.
According to Mr. K'Sung, Head of Ting Wel Dom Residential Group in Dong Gia Nghia Ward, electricity has fundamentally changed both people's mindset and production methods. "In the past, local residents mainly relied on traditional farming practices. Today, many households have adopted modern technologies, invested in machinery, and developed household businesses. Electricity has become an essential prerequisite for accessing new production methods," he said.
Staff from Gia Nghia Power, under Lam Dong Power Company (PC Lam Dong), also assist local residents in using EVN's customer service application, helping them access electricity services more conveniently.
Mr. Thai Minh Chau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Gia Nghia Ward, noted that electricity is one of the key drivers of local socio-economic development. A reliable power supply has enabled agricultural production to expand, supported the growth of service businesses, and improved education, healthcare, and cultural life in rural communities. For ethnic minority areas, electricity not only meets daily household needs but also provides a foundation for sustainable poverty reduction by enabling the application of modern technologies, improving labor productivity, and increasing household incomes.
According to Mr. Bui Minh Huy, Director of Tuy Duc Power, the power sector's mission extends beyond ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply. It also aims to contribute to socio-economic development and improve people's quality of life. In recent years, electricity demand in ethnic minority communities has changed significantly. Electricity is no longer used solely for lighting but has become a productive resource supporting agricultural production, processing activities, and local services.
The experience of border villages in the Central Highlands demonstrates that electricity creates value far beyond that of an essential utility. It enables access to knowledge and technology, promotes economic development, improves living standards, encourages local people to remain in their hometowns, and supports rural development. These are among the most significant contributions the power sector is making toward the sustainable development of the Central Highlands.
