On March 5, in Phu Tho, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) held a ceremony to commence the construction of the Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project, section passing through Phu Tho province.

In attendance were Comrade Luong Ngoc Thach – Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Tho province; Comrade Nguyen Viet Dung – Deputy Head of the Phu Tho Provincial Power Development Steering Committee and Director of the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Industry and Trade; along with representatives from provincial departments and agencies, local Party committees, and authorities of Doan Hung, Thanh Ba, and Phu Ninh districts, as well as residents in the project area.

On behalf of EVN, the event was attended by Mr. Vo Hong Linh, Member of the EVN Board of Directors; Mr. Pham Hong Phuong, EVN Vice President; and leaders of the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union and the EVN Youth Union.

Representatives from the supervision consulting unit and the construction contractor for package 8HH-DZ500LC (from position 334 to 380) of the project were also in attendance.

Delegates attend groundbreaking ceremony of Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line, section passing through Phu Tho province.

The Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project is a key national project that has been approved for investment by the Prime Minister. This is a 500kV double-circuit transmission line with a total length of 229.5km, comprising 468 transmission pole positions. The project passes through four provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc, starting from the Lao Cai 500kV substation and ending at the Vinh Yen 500kV substation.

Once operational, the transmission line will transfer power from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid, enhancing electricity import capacity. Additionally, it will strengthen interconnectivity between regional power systems, improve the safe and stable operation of the national power system, reduce transmission losses, and enhance the efficiency of EVN’s power production and business operations.

The section of the transmission line passing through Phu Tho province is 41.06km long, with 94 transmission pole positions (from position 275 to 369), spanning three districts: Doan Hung, Thanh Ba, and Phu Ninh. The project contributes to securing energy resources for the province’s medium- and long-term development goals, increasing budget revenue, and creating job opportunities for local businesses and workers.

Bui Phuong Nam, Director of EVNPMB1, stated that all necessary conditions for executing Package No. 8HH-DZ500LC have been met in compliance with regulations. He urged the contractor consortium—comprising Viet A Investment, Trade, and Industry Group Joint Stock Company and Viet Vuong Joint Stock Company —to carry out the construction with the highest level of responsibility and utmost effort to ensure timely completion while maintaining quality, safety, and environmental protection standards. Engineering consultants and supervision consultants must mobilize capable personnel, and closely collaborate with the construction contractors and EVNPMB1 to promptly address any arising issues to ensure the project meets its quality and schedule requirements.

Construction begins at position 349 in Lien Hoa commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province

On behalf of the contractor, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Deputy General Director of Viet A Investment, Trade, and Industry Group Joint Stock Company, representing the contractor consortium, stated that Package 8HH-DZ500LC includes 46 pole positions. To expedite construction, the contractor has conducted field surveys for all positions and has now essentially completed site preparation and road access procedures.

The contractor is ready to mobilize 18 teams for foundation casting and will simultaneously carry out construction at multiple positions to meet the urgent schedule. In parallel, 11 teams will be deployed for pole erection. The consortium has also prepared a plan to execute the two most challenging positions—poles 369 and 370—spanning the Lo River in Phu Tho, with towering heights of up to 130 meters.
