On March 31 and April 1, a working delegation from Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV) and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) visited Indonesia to hold meetings with major coal suppliers and conduct field surveys at several key coal mines and ports. The program aimed to strengthen coordination in coal imports for thermal power plants.

Leading the delegation on behalf of TKV was Mr. Ngo Hoang Ngan – Chairman of the Board of Members of TKV.

Representing EVN was Mr. Pham Le Phu – Vice President of EVN.

During the program, the delegation met with major Indonesian coal producers such as PT Berau Coal, PT Bukit Asam (PTBA), and PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC). These companies possess large reserves and production capacities of tens of millions of tons annually, supported by modern logistics systems, export ports, and operational management. They also play an important role in the coal supply chain in Asia and globally.

The delegation also held discussions with trading partners, including Welhunt, HMS, and Glencore, to review existing contracts and explore opportunities to expand cooperation in the future. The discussions focused on ensuring a stable and long-term supply of imported coal amid increasing fuel demand for power generation.

As part of the working program, the delegation conducted field visits to several major coal mines and ports, including the Sangatta mine operated by KPC, one of the largest open-pit coal mines in the world, as well as other mining areas in East Kalimantan. Through these site visits, the delegation observed large-scale mining operations, modern technologies, and synchronized processes from extraction and transportation to export, providing practical insights that may be considered for application in Vietnam’s coal production conditions.

The working visit contributed to strengthening coordination between EVN and TKV in ensuring fuel supply for power generation, while also reinforcing cooperation with international partners. It provides a foundation for effectively implementing coal import contracts in the coming period to meet fuel demand for thermal power plants and support the country’s socio-economic development.
