The total power production and import output of the whole system in March reached 27.1 billion kWh. Accumulated in the first quarter of 2025, power production of the entire system reached 72.2 billion kWh. The proportion of mobilized power sources of the whole system in the first quarter of 2025 is as follows:
+ Hydropower: 13.8 billion kWh, accounting for 19.1%.
+ Coal-fired thermal power: 40.8 billion kWh, accounting for 56.5%.
+ Gas turbines: 4.6 billion kWh, accounting for 6.4%.
+ Renewable energy: 11.51 billion kWh, accounting for 16.0% (of which solar power reached 6.69 billion kWh, wind power reached 4.45 billion kWh).
+ Imported electricity: 1.33 billion kWh, accounting for 1.8%.
Transmission power output in the first 3 months of 2025 is estimated at 57.4 billion kWh.

In the first quarter of 2025, EVN also operated hydropower plants in the Northern region to ensure water supply for agricultural production in the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop for the provinces of the Northern Midlands and Delta as requested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, while ensuring power supply for pumping stations and in-field pumping systems. With a total water discharge volume of 3.27 billion m3 from hydropower reservoirs, it shows that 859 million m3 of water has been saved compared to the original plan.
In March, EVN actively responded to participate in the Earth Hour Campaign 2025 with the message "Green transition - Green future". The movement not only calls for electricity savings but also aims at a broader target of encouraging sustainable energy production activities, increasing the use of renewable energy, promoting the application of energy-saving products and devices, and contributing to improving energy efficiency in both economic and environmental aspects.
Actively responding to the Earth Hour Campaign, taking advantage of cyberspace, digital transformation, and social networks, EVN has asked its subsidiaries to post content responding to the Earth Hour Campaign 2025 on digital media channels such as website, Zalo, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc, in many rich and attractive forms such as infographics, images, video clips, to attract attention and spread widely in the community. After 1 hour of light-off to respond to the 2025 Earth Hour Campaign (from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 22, 2025), the whole country has saved 448,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to about VND 942.2 million (according to the current average retail electricity price of 2,103.1159 VND/kWh)
Construction investment: In the first quarter of 2025, to implement the 2025 investment and construction plan, EVN leaders regularly inspected construction sites of key projects, and at the same time directed and in coordination with units directly worked with localities, urging to resolve and remove difficulties and obstacles, promoting the progress of project implementation. The Standing Committee of the EVN Party Committee issued a specialized Resolution to lead and direct the investment and construction work of key projects in 2025 (including 05 power source projects, and 16 power grid projects). Some outstanding results in the first quarter of 2025: (i) The National Assembly approved the unique mechanism for Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power projects; (ii) The Prime Minister attended the groundbreaking and emulation movement launching ceremony of Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV Transmission Line Project; (iii) Deploying the construction of the main works of the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project; (iv) Many key projects have been completed such as The Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line, Hai Duong Thermal Power 220kV Line - Pho Noi 500kV substation, etc; (v) Many important transmission projects have been approved by the Prime Minister and localities for investment, such as: Nam Dinh, Quynh Luu, Lao Bao 500kV substations; Quang Tri, Binh Dinh switching stations and connecting lines; Hai Phong - Thai Binh 500kV line, 220kV line of Long Thanh 500kV substation - High Technology, etc.
In the first quarter of 2025, EVN and its units started 37 projects and completed energizing 57 power grid projects from 110kV to 500kV (including 01 500kV project, 04 220kV projects, and 52 110kV projects).
In addition to production and business activities, investment, and construction, in the first quarter, member units of EVN carried out many practical social security activities with a total value of about VND 15.9 billion. Typical examples include: Participating in sponsoring the movement "Removing temporary houses and dilapidated houses " in many localities; implementing several works "Lighting up the countryside roads", supporting the construction and repair of houses for the poor, and policy families in localities. In addition, there are also several activities such as giving gifts, supporting the poor and families in difficult circumstances, policy beneficiary families, and caring for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers during the Lunar New Year of Ất Tỵ.
Some working tasks of EVN in second quarter and April 2025
EVN requires member units to focus on efforts to implement the task under the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister to strive to successfully complete the 2025 plan tasks while continuing to implement thoroughly the prevention of waste in work activities.
Regarding power production and supply:
- Ensuring power supply for production and consumption during the peak months of the dry season 2025. In particular, EVN closely coordinates with NSMO in establishing the method of operating the national power system to ensure sufficient power supply for production, business, and consumption.
- Coordinating the operation, optimally mobilizing power sources in the power system, combining to increase maximum transmission from the Central region to the North, and regulating to keep water in hydropower reservoirs at a reasonable level until the end of the dry season in 2025 to increase the available capacity of hydropower plants.
- Power Generation Corporations and power generation units ensure sufficient fuel for power production according to system demand, ready-to-operate generators that meet the operating method, and reserve power sources as required by NSMO; strictly implement technical management, inspection, review of processes and regulations in operation and maintenance to ensure the availability and reliability of generators.
- National Power Transmission Corporation operates the power grid safely and reliably; strengthens inspection, thoroughly handles equipment defects, and handles risks of violating the line corridor to ensure stable operation of power lines and substations.
- Power Corporations/Power Companies develop and implement backup plans to ensure stable and continuous power supply in areas producing essential goods, industrial parks, export processing zones, and densely populated residential areas; proactively monitor developments, closely follow local economic and social development, be responsible for analyzing the structure of load components, improve the quality of load forecasting and prepare power supply scenarios; continue to implement Directive No. 20 on propaganda and implementation of electricity saving.
Regarding investment in power source construction: Accelerating the construction progress of key power source projects, ensuring the target of starting the Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project in April 2025.
Regarding investment in power grid construction: Continuing to focus on implementing urgent power source and grid projects (Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line; Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, deploying the construction of the key project of Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project, underground cable power supply project for Con Dao district, etc).
To reduce difficulties in operating the power system during dry season months and prolonged hot weather, minimizing the risk of electrical incidents due to increased electricity demand - especially in the North, EVN hopes to continue to receive the sharing and active cooperation of people and electricity customers through thoroughly using electricity economically, especially during peak lunch hours and peak evening hour. At the same time, pay attention to the appropriate use of air conditioning (set at 26 - 27 degrees or higher), and be careful not to use multiple high-power electrical devices simultaneously during peak hours, etc.
