Vietnam and France strengthen energy cooperation

On March 11 in Hanoi, Mr. Dang Hoang An, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), received and held a working session with a delegation from the French Embassy and Électricité de France (EDF), led by Mr. Olivier Brochet, Ambassador of France to Vietnam.

Joining the delegation from EDF was Mr. Erkki Maillard, Director of International and Governmental Affairs and Advisor to the Chairman of EDF.

On the EVN side, Mr. Dang Huy Cuong, Member of the Board of Directors, along with leaders of the Group and specialized departments, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector, especially as Vietnam prepares for new power development directions under the National Power Development Plan VIII.

EDF shared its experience in implementing nuclear power projects in France and globally, while also presenting new technologies and technical solutions to enhance operational efficiency and optimize investment costs.

EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An praised EDF’s extensive expertise in nuclear power, particularly its role in operating more than 120 GW of generation capacity worldwide. He noted that experienced partners like EDF could provide Vietnam with practical insights as the country builds a sustainable roadmap for nuclear power development.

Both sides agreed to continue exploring specific collaboration opportunities, including the organization of thematic workshops to exchange experiences in implementing nuclear power projects.

EDF also committed to supporting EVN in training human resources and providing technical information necessary to lay the groundwork for the future development of nuclear power in Vietnam.
