Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant

Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant consists of two generating units with a combined installed capacity of 1,244MW. It is located within the Vinh Tan Power Center in Vinh Hao Commune, Lam Dong Province (formerly Vinh Tan Commune, Tuy Phong District, Binh Thuan Province). The plant uses Hon Gai – Cam Pha Grade 6A anthracite coal as its primary fuel.

Construction of the Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant Project commenced on 8 August 2010 under Vietnam Electricity (EVN), with a total investment cost of approximately VND 23.477 trillion. Unit 1 was first synchronized with the national grid on 15 January 2014 and entered commercial operation on 30 January 2015. Unit 2 was first synchronized with the national grid on 7 September 2014 and commenced commercial operation on 21 March 2015.

Over the past 11 years, the plant has maintained an average annual electricity generation of approximately 7.2 billion kWh, making a significant contribution to ensuring electricity supply for southern Vietnam, reducing the power system's reliance on hydropower, and enhancing the safety, stability, and economic efficiency of the national power system.

This achievement reflects the plant's sustained efforts to operate its generating units safely and reliably while meeting the dispatch requirements of the national power system during periods of high electricity demand. The plant has consistently maintained a high level of operational availability, contributing to the reliable supply of electricity to support the country's socio-economic development.

Looking ahead, Vinh Tan Thermal Power Company will continue to prioritize the safe and reliable operation of its generating units, strengthen maintenance and overhaul activities, improve power generation efficiency, and achieve its assigned technical and economic performance targets, thereby contributing to the stable and reliable operation of Vietnam's national power system.
