The seminar aims to exchange, discuss and introduce advanced solutions and the latest technologies in the field of waterproofing and repairing treatment for concrete works, weak ground for power plants in the operation phase in order to ensure safety, improve operational efficiency and increase the project lifetime.
In recent years, the capacity of renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind power, etc. which have been put into operation are remarkable, creating significant challenges in the power system operation due to their unstable characteristics. In that context, hydropower with its possibility to cover the peak of the load diagram as well as promptly support frequency control is still one of the key generation sources.
By the end of 2021, the total installed capacity of the power system in Vietnam reached 76,620MW, of which hydropower alone accounted for 28.5% of the installed capacity. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently 466 hydropower projects that have been put into operation. Of which, there are over 350 gravity concrete dams. According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Chinh, General Director of EVNPECC1, some projects have been found with signs of deterioration through crack phenomenon at the concrete structure of gravity dam body, spillway and seepage at gravity dam and dam foundation. A number of the concrete and reinforced concrete structures on the waterways such as tunnel lining, pressurized culverts, surge shafts or powerhouses are also found with seepage and cracks. The seepage and crack phenomena can potentially reduce the project lifetime, in some extreme cases, it may affect the project safety. This poses an urgent requirement for maintenance work to improve the safety of the projects and avoid negative social impacts. One of the maintenance solutions to improve the project lifetime is to treat cracks and seepage in concrete and foundation by chemical grouting.
At the Seminar, Mr. Le Quang Huy – Head of Technical and International Department, EVNPECC1 presented the presentation on “A number of cracks and seepage patterns are commonly found in hydro concrete structures and rock base” with issues such as a number of cracks and seepage patterns in concrete and their impact on gravity dam safety; a number of cracks and seepage at the spillway; a number of cracks may be found in headrace tunnels and powerhouses; seepage in the rock base.
PECC1’s engineers in conjunction with MC- Bauchemie’s experts performed the model testings: Waterproofing treatment through thermal joints: Waterproofing treatment through the gallery, dam foundation and abutment. Products used at the seminar were MC-Injekt 2700/ MC-Injekt 2700L forming confined foam (up to about 20MPa) if encountering water; The setting time of the resin (from about 15 seconds to 30 minutes) can be adjusted according to site conditions.
Through this seminar, MC-Bauchemie Group introduced the products used for the advanced solutions for waterproofing and repairing as well as headed for a long-term cooperation opportunity with Vietnamese partners and customers.
EVNPECC 1 (belonging to Vietnam Electricity) has more than 55 years of construction and development, is a professional and prestigious consulting company leading in the fields of energy, industry and infrastructure in Vietnam. The company has been carrying out engineering consulting, survey, testing, and so on for many key national power projects, as well as many overseas power projects. One of the key tasks always headed by EVNPECC 1 is to perform well the consulting work for the design stage, and to accompany the managers and investors throughout the project operation period.
