Application of thermal sensor camera integrating facial recognition system to COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control

Power Transmission Company 3 (headquartered in Khanh Hoa province) puts into service an automatic body temperature measuring camera system using infrared sensors integrating facial recognition to check automatically body temperature for all staff as well as guests entering the office.

According to the Head of Technical Department of Power Transmission Company 3 (PTC 3) Huynh Quang Thinh, the remote body temperature measuring camera system integrates an audible and color warning when the body temperature exceeds 35oC. The person who needs his temperature to be measured needs not take off his or her mask or helmet when going through the gate, but only needs to look at the camera, revealing a part of the face, at a distance from 2 to 3m within 2 seconds.

If the measured body temperature exceeds 37oC, the camera system will emit a warning sound, and transmit the face image to the television screen in the guard room for further control and inspection, as well as will store data in the server system to help the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.

This camera system which integrates a high accuracy facial feature recognition will compare it with the photo of each employee updated on the HRMS (Human Resource Management system).

This is also a pilot step of PTC 3 to move forward to deploying a remote human identification and body temperature check system, allowing on-duty staff at the Operation SupervisingCenter located in Nha Trang city to grant access to work at unmanned substations managed and operated by PTC 3 spanning at nine provinces in the South Central and Central Highlands.
