Da Nang accelerates the progress of important power generation and grid projects in service of APEC

The APEC 2017 Summit will take place in Da Nang early November 2017. During the APEC Summit in Da Nang, the load demand is estimated at about 8.8 million kWh per day. The power sector is racing against time to finish important projects in service of this event.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh, Deputy General Director of the Central Power Corporation, said that in order to best prepare for electricity supply to the APEC 2017 Summit in November 2017, from October 2016 to September 2017, the Central Power Corporation together with the National Power Transmission Corporation has implemented 17 significant power grid projects in Da Nang city with a total investment cost of over VND 1,100 billion.

In addition to 11 projects on upgrading substation capacity, rehabilitating coastal power grids having been completed in 2016, the remaining six projects for medium and low voltage power grids have been accelerated by relevant organizations under directions of the Central Power Corporation so as to complete before September 30, 2017.

In particular, projects of restoring 35 kV power lines, 110 kV substations to improve the reliability of the power grid have been performed and completed nearly 60% of the volume of works, expected to be energized before September 17, 2017.

The project of building 22 kV power system to supply electricity to 2/9 road and Tuyen Son bridge, the project of enhancing the electricity supply reliability for 482 Ngu Hanh Son feeder have reached 98% of the volume of works, which is expected to be completed by September 24, 2017.

The project of building 22 kV power system along Nguyen Tat Thanh street and Thuan Phuoc bridge has also reached 97% of the volume of works, which is expected to be completed by September 25, 2017.

The two remaining 22 kV projects after Hoa Xuan and Ngu Hanh Son 110 kV substations respectively will finish on September 30, 2017.

In order to undertake safe and continuous electricity supply for the whole city in general and the APEC Summit in particular, Da Nang Power One - Member Limited Liability Company has commenced to build many significant power grid projects simultaneously. Among them, 8 110 kV projects and 10 projects are prioritized to serve APEC. Of which the 110 kV underground cable from Da Nang 500 kV substation to Lien Tri 110 kV substation will be constructed by the Central Power Corporation, the seven remaining projects are invested by Da Nang Power Company. These 110 kV power projects were completed on August 8, 2017.

According to Da Nang Power One - Member Limited Liability Company, construction of a substation will take 7 - 8 months to complete, however these projects have been completed within just 6 months. Despite shortened construction duration, these projects ensure high modernization level and satisfactory quality. However, the implementation of 110 kV projects has encountered many obstacles caused by procedures relating to compensation, site clearance and related documents. During the past time, the power sector has received instructions and supports to promptly resolve the obstacles from leaders of the People's Committee of the city and localities where the projects are located. After the completion of 110 kV projects, the management of the substations is continuously monitored by monitoring teams from status signals at the stations sent to the monitoring system, the camera system (in unmanned substations). In addition, regular visits are paid to these substations by staff for cleaning and maintaining equipment.

According to Mr. Le Hong Cuong, Deputy Director of Da Nang Power Company, the power sector has enhanced mobilization of human resources from subsidiaries to implement the remaining projects. Responsible divisions have to develop work schedule every week, follow up, monitor and inspect closely, smoothly, so as to avoid any undesirable incidents.

The completion of projects on schedule is of great significance in order to timely meet the rising electricity consumption demand of people; at the same time, contributing to improvement of the electricity supply reliability in the city center as well as Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son and Hai Chau districts where many important events of the APEC 2017 Summit will take place.
