Dak Nong 500kV substation has been upgraded to 1,350MVA to meet transmission capacity of renewable energy sources in Central Highlands

At 01:58 on 18 March 2022, in Nhan Co commune, Dak R'Lap district, Dak Nong province, the Southern Power Project Management Board (SPMB) in coordination with relevant units to successfully accept and energize phase 1 of "replacing AT2 transformer (from 450MVA to 900MVA) and 232 bay devices" under the capacity increasing project of Dak Nong 500kV substation.

The AT2 transformer at Dak Nong 500kV substation has its capacity increased to 900MVA

After completing energizing the AT2 transformer, the capacity of Dak Nong 500kV substation was increased to 1,350MVA.

The Dak Nong 500kV substation capacity increasing project is invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), managed by SPMB on behalf of EVNNPT, received and managed the operation by Power Transmission Company 3. This is one of EVNNPT's first 500kV substation projects completed in 2022, managed by SPMB.

The project is invested to replace 02 existing 500/220kV/35kV - 450MVA transformers with 02 500/220/35kV - 900MVA transformers. During this period, the successful replacement of 01 AT2 transformer from 450MVA to 900MVA has significantly increased the power transmission capacity through Dak Nong 500kV substation, promptly responding to the capacity release from renewable energy sources and hydropower plants in Dak Nong province and the Central Highlands provinces to the national power system.

In addition, the items of the completed project contribute to ensuring the N-1 criterion, strengthening the power system stability, improving the reliability and safety of power supply for the national power system; in accordance with the National power development planning.
