According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Chinh – Chairman of People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, the province’s policy is to transfer the whole existing power generation and network assets in Con Co island to EVN for management, operation and direct electricity selling.
Agreeing upon the province’s proposal, Mr. Nguyen Tan Loc – Vietnam Electricity’s Vice President – suggested that to realize this proposal as per the current regulations, the People’s Committee should submit the proposal in written form to the Prime Minister. Upon the PM’s approval, EVN will proceed with acquisition of the assets.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Loc added that in order to stabilize the electricity supply to Con Co island, besides the current maintenance and upgrading of diesel generation sources, in the long run, EVN will consider introducing solar energy PV sources which will be installed on rooftops of houses.
Before the meeting, EVN’s mission had investigated the power grid in Con Co island, the actual electricity consumption status of the island, and the forecasted load demand growth rates in the coming years when tourist routes are developed in the island.
