EVNHCMC consecutively won 2 international awards for "Smart Grid"

On October 8, the Enlit Asia 2024 International Conference opened in Malaysia with the participation of more than 400 businesses operating in the energy sector around the world. At the conference, Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) continued to win the "Smart Grid" award for the second time with the project "Power outage management map". At the same time, EVNHCMC was honored to win the award in the category "Automation in Smart Power Grid" of Power Magazine - USA.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nha - Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC receiving award

Enlit Asia International Conference is the unified brand of the Asian Power Generation Industry Exhibition (PowerGen Asia) and the Asian Utility Week (Asean Utility Week), which has been launched since 2014. The program has the largest scale and importance in the region, gathering energy corporations and large solution providers such as ABB, Siemens, Mitsubishi, TNB Malaysia, SPGroup Singapore, PLN Indonesia, MEA Thailand, etc.

With outstanding achievements in smart grid development and innovation, EVNHCMC's project "Power Outage Management Map" and two other projects of TNB Malaysia entered the finals of the "Smart Grid Award" category of this event. In the end, EVNHCMC excellently ranked first and continued to maintain its achievement as a pioneer in the Vietnamese electricity industry, surpassing large corporations in the region, and winning the first prize in the field of smart grid development.

"Ho Chi Minh City power outage information online map" also known as "Power outage management map" is developed by EVNHCMC. This is a product that uses IoT technology combined with data integration from many different information systems. This application allows the management of the power supply status (on/off) of all customers (~2.7 million) in real time and provides a detailed and accurate visual display of this information on the geographical map. This helps EVNHCMC closely manage power outages, implement effective operating solutions, and provide timely and accurate information to customers, thereby improving customer experience and satisfaction.

At the same time, EVNHCMC was honored for winning the award in the category "Automation in Smart Power Grid" from Power Magazine - USA. The Smart Grid project (DAS) helps reduce the frequency, time of work as well as complexity of work, thereby improving the overall safety level for workers, especially in poor conditions of severe weather. In Ho Chi Minh City, distribution grid incidents mostly occur in hot, peak seasons or storms, so they often cause more potential dangers for workers in the process of identifying and handling incidents.

The application of the DAS automation system (FLISR) allows EVNHCMC to collect remote equipment data from the field to the control center, thereby using intelligent data analysis algorithms and making reasonable decisions. The system allows for quick handling in isolating incidents and re-supplying power to unaffected areas through smart devices on the grid. Along with many other solutions that EVNHCMC is implementing such as applying liveline construction technology in new installations, equipment repair and maintenance, livestream safety monitoring, and the Workforce Management System, contributing significantly to improving overall safety for field workers at EVNHCMC.

According to the 2022 Smart Grid Index (SGI) scoring board conducted by Singapore Power Group, EVNHCMC has achieved 71.4/100 points, ranked 47th/94 Power Companies in the world. In particular, the monitoring and control of the power grid (Monitoring and Control) achieved the maximum score (4/4 points).  The entire power grid has been operated automatically, including 02 control centers (main and backup geographically independent); 57/57 110kV unmanned substations; 100% of medium voltage power grids operating fully automatically, capable of self-detecting, isolating incidents and re-supplying power within < 1 minute for unaffected areas; 100% of distribution substations being remotely monitored, with the function of instantly notifying customers of power outages.

In the coming time, EVNHCMC will keep on implementing digital transformation, maintaining an advanced level according to the assessment of independent organizations and consultants, and developing a smart power grid in-depth, deserving to be the leading unit of Vietnam's power industry in the application of science, technology, and innovation.

In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation was honored for receiving the following awards:

+ Second Prize - The 30th VIFOTEC Award was organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

+ Award in the category "Automation in Smart Grid" from Power Magazine, USA.
