The Department of Construction said: the undergrounding has been basically completed in 6 streets including Hoa Lu, Vo Thi Sau, Tran Khat Chan, Chau Long, Ngoc Ha, and Doi Can.
In order to continue the urban renewal plan, currently the Department of Construction has coordinated with the Department of Information and Communication and People's Committees of districts where 124 streets are proposed for cable undergrounding in the second phase. At present, these authorities have come up with a list of 42 streets having businesses’ registrations and in the process of consultation for the second undergrounding in 2017.
Years ago, cable networks such as cable television, electricity, information, telecommunications, internet flourished, mostly spontaneously. The People's Committee of Hanoi has plans to build a system of underground urban technical infrastructure to replace overhead lines.
The People's Committee of Hanoi has invested to clear and undergroundize these overhead lines. However, the funding source is not enough to do the undergrounding in many streets and alleys in districts.
In order to solve the above difficulties, over the past time, the People's Committee of Hanoi has signed investment cooperation agreements with Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group, Army Telecommunications Group and Hanoi Power Corporation to co-operate in laying down underground cables in some streets in the city in the period 2016 - 2020.
The undergrounding will be realized under the scheme of socialization, with the target that by the end of 2020 all the overhead lines in 4 downtown districts (about 320 streets) will be undergroundized and those in other districts will be performed later.
According to the City People's Committee, the total investment cost to do the undergrounding in the period 2016 - 2020 is about VND 3,500 billion.
