Intense sun heat causes electricity consumption in the whole country and the North hit record levels, EVN recommends saving electricity

The intense hot weather in the North and Central regions since mid-June has made electricity consumption of the whole country and the North increase sharply. According to data from the National Load Dispatch Center, at noon on 21 June 2022, the national electricity consumption capacity exceeded 45,000MW for the first time and set a new record peak of 45,528MW. In addition, the electricity consumption capacity of the North alone has also set a new record, with the peak capacity of the North at 22,330MW at noon on 21 June 2022.

Thus, compared with the average level of the previous week, the peak capacity of the national power system on 21 June 2022, has increased to more than 6,500MW; for the North alone, peak capacity has also increased by more than 5,200MW - equivalent to an increase of nearly 31% compared to the previous week's average. Compared to the peak in 2021, the national consumption capacity on 21 June 2022, is nearly 3,100MW higher and the peak capacity in the North is also nearly 1,400MW higher.

In terms of electricity consumption, both nationwide and the North also set new record numbers in this heat wave. In particular, 21 June 2022, is also the first time that the daily electricity output of the entire national power system has exceeded 900 million kWh for the first time with a specific figure of 909 million kWh, far exceeding the peak in 2021 of 880 million kWh. In addition, the electricity consumption output of the North also reached a new peak of 459 million kWh on 21 June 2022.

To limit the risk of local incidents on the power grid as well as in the family, EVN continues to recommend that people, offices, and production places pay attention to safe, economical electricity use, especially at noon and evening peak hours, specifically at noon from 11:30 to 14:30, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. At the same time, pay attention to the rational use of air conditioners (set at 26-27 degrees or higher, used in combination with fans) and pay attention not to use many large-capacity electrical appliances at the same time.

In the context of a very high increase in input fuel prices for power production in recent months (such as coal, gas, oil, etc.), the economical use of electricity is even more necessary and meaningful, contributing to reducing operating costs for the whole system.
