Investing in smart grid development in Thu Duc city (Ho Chi Minh City)

In order to contribute to the modernization of urban technical infrastructure of Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) will undergroundize the entire power grid and communication lines on the roadroutes and road axes of Thu Duc City.

In the period of 2021 - 2026, EVNHCMC is expected to invest about VND 3,200 - 3,500 billion in Thu Duc city to build a new 220kV substation, 06 110kV substations (with a total additional capacity of 1,382MVA); new development of 245 km medium voltage power grid; 585 km of low voltage power grid; renovate and install new 447 distribution substations with a total capacity of 363MVA.

EVNHCMC has been also implementing27 projects to undergroundize the power grid in combination with communication lines, in order to increase the rate of undergrounding Thu Duc city's medium voltage grid from less than 50% at present to 75-80% in 2025.

EVNHCMC also constantly improves the quality of customer services by completing the installation of a remote metering system (quarter 3/2021), helping customers in the area to monitor and track the entire use process of power through the application (App) Customer care of EVNHCMC. This is also the advantage of the digital channel interacting with customers, helping the Electricity industry to receive and resolve customer feedbacks and suggestions in the fastest and most complete manner.

EVNHCMC sets the target: By 2025, striving to reach the level of development on par with advanced countries in the region. In particular, the targeted rate of power supply to the people of the Ho Chi Minh City will reach 4,050 kWh/person/year, and Thu Duc City alone at from 5,500 to 6,000 kWh/person/year; the average number of power outages in a year is less than 0.3 times and the average power outage time is less than 30 minutes/year.
