Letter from the Chairman of Board of Directors of Vietnam Electricity to employees on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Vietnamese Power Sector’s Traditional Day

On the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Vietnamese Power Sector’s Traditional Day (December 21, 1954 – December 21, 2017), on behalf of leaders of Vietnam Electricity, I would like to express my sincere thanks to generations of leaders, retired executives and managers, and all the employees of Vietnam Electricity for your devotions and sacrifices extended to the establishment and development of Vietnam Electricity during the past 63 years. On December 21, 1954, after the capital was taken over, our beloved Uncle Ho paid a visit to Bo Ho Lake Lighting Plant. In this place, he said: "... The plant now belongs to the people, the Government, and all of you. You are the plant’s owners, so you have to preserve and develop it more and more... ". The 21st of December has become the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Power Sector. The Power Sector has so far been proud of being an integral part of the country, together with the in the struggle for national liberation, unification, national defense and construction. Celebrating the 63rd anniversary of Vietnamese Power Sector’s Traditional Day, we have a chance to review our beloved Uncle Ho's remarks, recalling the milestones in the difficult and glorious history of development, at the same time to express our gratitude to the generations of employees, predecessors who devoted their hearts, energies, and even their lives to the growth of the power sector. In the spirit of realizing the theme of 2017, "Promoting science and technology application", all employees of EVN have worked and strived to accomplish the targets and assignments of the 2017 plan at the highest levels, creating an impetus for satisfactorily accomplishing the five year plan of 2016 – 2020. Experiencing 63 years of unremitting efforts, the Revolutionary Power Sector of Vietnam is proud of having created a great energy potential for the country. From such a modest capacity of 31 MW generating an output of 53 million kWh in 1954 in the North, the total installed capacity of the national power system currently has reached over 45,000 MW, the second largest in the ASEAN countries and the 30th in the world; the generation output in 2017 is estimated at over 174 billion kWh, increasing by 8.9% over 2016. The national power system is a unified body with power plants, transmission grids, distribution grids spreading throughout the country, with a total length of 500-220-110 kV grid systems of nearly 45,000 km. In addition, the Power Sector has actively involved in public benefit activities, bringing the grid connected electricity to 99.98% of the communes and 98.83% of rural households. In 2017, EVN has continued to take over the power supply for Spratly Islands and Con Co island district, increasing the total number of electrified island districts to 11 out of 12 island districts, contributing significantly to the industrialization and modernization of the country; this socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and island areas and the eradication of hunger and alleviation of poverty is an achievement that not many countries in the world have realized. In 2018, inheriting the tradition of generations of predecessors, leaders and employees of Vietnam Electricity in the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and innovation are determined to develop EVN as an economic group strong, responsible to the community, to the society, professional, friendly with customers; striving to increase labor productivity, production and business efficiency; developing a crew of capable and dedicated workforce; completely excelling the assigned political tasks; ensuring the security and quality of electricity supply, meeting the requirements of economic development and social security, etc. The whole employees of EVN persistently strive to deserve the traditions of Vietnamese Power Sector, the difficult, challenging but lofty and glorious political tasks entrusted by the Party, the Government and the people. EVN’s leaders believe that all employees will continue to unite, try your bests to overcome difficulties to keep the electricity of the country, keep the faith of the Party, the Government and people. On the occasion of the new year 2018, allow me to convey to the predecessors and all the employees of Vietnam Electricity my wishes of good health, happiness and success.
