Many challenges remained in applying achievements of Industrial Revolution 4.0 into business and customer services

EVN always take the initiative in applying technology, modern software and information technology (IT) systems into their business and customer service (CS). However, that is not the even “path”.

Aiming to an “e-enterprise”

Mr. Vo Quang Lam - Deputy General Director of EVN affirmed that EVN was striving to be an “e-enterprise” by 2020, becoming one of the four leading power units in ASEAN. Particularly, IT is a powerful tool for EVN to digitize electricity business services, providing customers with modern and professional services.

In the period of 2013 - 2017, 27 software programs had been developed and put into use in the management, business and customer services of the Group, creating comprehensive changes in the quality of electricity services, affirming the constantly innovative and increasingly professional image of the Power sector towards power customers. Particularly, in the field of customer management, EVN has developed and implemented the Customer management information system – CMIS 2.0 capably meeting 25 electricity professional skills, services. In 2017, with the theme “Promoting the application of science and technology”, the software of CMIS 2.0 was developed and added with new modules by EVN such as: Extending the application of electronic digital signature, digitizing electricity purchase contracts, implementing online electricity services, integrating with public administrative centers of localities, etc.; at the same time, EVN also developed and deployed CMIS version 3.0.

Power sector is first infrastructure economy sector in Vietnam providing 100% of online services

Thanks to the efficient application of digital power from the software of CMIS, EVN become the first infrastructure economy sector in Vietnam deploying 100% of electronic invoices, providing 20/20 online services at level 3 to customers. EVN has also used a variety of payment forms via Internet banking, SMS banking, etc. The customer care centers are invested, applied with specialized software of CRM, at the same time, customers are efficiently served through modern channels such as: Switchboard, website, mobile application (app), customer consultation by artificial intelligence (AI) application of chatbot, etc.

On the road map of “electronization”, EVN has actively transferred the system of manual power measurement to semi-automatic one and orientated to complete automation. In synchronization with the modern and advanced measuring system, the Group will strive  to apply a software of equipment management and measurement by bar code, deploy EVNHES software for collecting data of remote electronic meters of all meter types to support index recording, billing for customers and performing internal power exchanges. The transition to a modern measuring system is assessed as an important premise, helping EVN step by step form and develop smart grids in the near future.

Many challenges remained

Besides the achievements, the application of IT in the business and customer services in the Group has remained certain limitations. According to Assoc. Prof. PhD. Tran Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of National Institute of Information and Communications, Ministry of Information and Communications, the problem faced by EVN as well as Vietnamese enterprises is the barrier in modern IT infrastructure investment, lack of high quality IT human resources, limited awareness of CMCN 4.0, etc.

Currently, the IT infrastructure in the units has remained many overlapping software systems, low in efficiency, functionality. Releasing, updating versions of software, applications have been inappropriate, errors have occurred after updating, making it difficult for operating activities in the power companies and directly affected the quality of power business services. In particular, the database system has not been accurate, the customer information has not been complete with inaccuracy, data updating to the application software system has not been prompt and regular, reducing the reliability in operating and CC.

Deputy General Director of EVN Vo Quang Lam said that in the coming time, EVN would strongly remove the overlapping software, agree to use the shared software throughout the Group. At the same time, EVN would integrate, associate softwares, ensuring the uniformity, integrity in data and technology optimization, efficiently serving EVN's business and CS activities. Particularly, the promotion of  IT application would be closely associated with information security.

Following the trend of Industrial Revolution 4.0, EVN will also develop large, concentrated online data stores at the levels of Group and Corporation, apply digital technology, cloud computing, technology of large data exploiting and analyzing - forecasting for operation and governance in the field of business and customer service sectors of the Group.

Assoc. Prof. PhD. Tran Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of National Institute of Information and Communications, Ministry of Information and Communications: With a series of projects of investment in, upgrading and modernization of the Power sector, EVN is one of the enterprises being prompt and sensible, expressing their determination in implementing the technological revolution 4.0, gradually promoting and taking advantages of the strength in information technology to serve the management, production - business.
