The Project for electricity supply from the national grid to Hon Nghe island commune, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang district started on October 10, 2015 and completed on December 30, 2016.
The Project is composed of an overhead 22kV power line 16.37 km long across the sea departing from Hon Chong coast (Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province) which is the second longest 22kV power line in the country after the 110kV line 24.495 km long to supply electricity to Lai Son island commune (Kien Hai district, Kien Giang province).
The total investment cost of the project is more than VND 140 billion, funded by the Southern Power Company. The project is composed of: construction of a new 22kV power line 16.37 km long across the sea and three-phase medium voltage power line 9.94 km long; construction of 08 substations with the total capacity of 975 kVA and installation of 526 power meters, branches to supply electricity to 526 households in the island.
The 22kV power line across the sea with the capacity of 14.14 MVA particularly is capable of supplying at the maximum millions of kWh per year, tens times higher than the previous supply capabilities of the diesel generators in Hon Nghe.
Beside the objectives of marine economic development promotion, solid defense line establishment, the project is expected to positively contribute to the environmental protection, investment attraction, awakening big tourism potential of Hon Nghe island commune, etc.
