Official conversion of transaction cycles to 30 minutes in power system and electricity market operation

Since 0:00 on 1 September, 2020, the National Load Dispatch Center (EVNNLDC) has successfully, safely and continuously converted the dispatching cycle, power system operation and power market  transactions management from 60 minutes down to 30 minutes. On 3 August, 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 2033/QD-BCT on approving the time of adjusting the dispatching and transaction cycle to 30 minutes in the power system and market operation.

Successful conversion of transaction cycles down to 30 minutes is a major turning point in the operation of the power system and the electricity market in Vietnam.

The conversion of the dispatching cycle, power system operation and power market transaction management to 30 minutes makes an important contribution to meeting the requirements of Vietnam's growing power system operation in both quality and quantity, with the diversity of power generation types, especially a strong development of renewable energy sources.

This is also a breakthrough in the operation of the power market, ensuring cost optimization for the whole society and contributing to ensuring security of power supply, creating a premise for the development of a competitive power retail market in the future.

At a recent conference on development of remote electronic meters for the 2021-2025 period, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority said that converting to a 30 minute transaction cycle was a major step in Vietnam power system and market operation. To achieve this goal, there was an important contribution by EVN in modernizing electronic metering and remote data transmission systems.
