According to EVN’s Vice President Pham Hong Phuong, this meeting is an opportunity for the two parties to review issues related to the operation as well as the implementation of the power purchase agreement phase 4 (2022 – 2025 period). In particular, the two parties would focus on discussing, concurring, and coordinating to resolve problems related to line protection, registration of electricity import volume for the remaining months in 2023 and 2024, plan to replace power transformers those not meeting technical requirements, strengthening conversations among dispatching units, etc.

The EVN’s leader said that, as a state-owned enterprise, EVN is responsible for ensuring electricity supply for socio-economic development and people's lives. Besides domestic power sources, electricity import from neighboring countries plays a very important role, especially the electricity import from China Southern Power Grid (CSG) through commercial transactions and grid interconnection with CSG's two subsidiaries including Yunnan International Company and Yunnan Power Grid Company.
The power trading cooperation between CSG and EVN started in 2004, including 4 phases with an average traded volume of over 2.2 billion kWh/year, through 110kV - 220kV transmission lines, electricity trading points located in Lao Cai, Ha Giang and Mong Cai. Currently, the two parties have been performing the phase 4 power purchase agreement for the period 2022-2025.

Mr. Cheng Jun, Deputy General Director of Yunnan International Company, stated that 2023 marks the 19th year CSG sells electricity to Vietnam. In the coming time, the YNIC leader believes that CSG and EVN will cooperate more closely and extensively, contributing to promoting the electricity cooperation between China and Vietnam to a new height.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc, Deputy Director of EVN's Technical - Generation Department, presented a report on power interconnection projects between China and Vietnam in 2023, making suggestions and recommendations including negotiation for power trading via Tham Cau - Mong Cai 110kV transmission line.
Also at the meeting, YNIC delivered presentations on the power supply plans for the last months of 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Within the framework of the meeting, the two parties held a workshop to share experiences on digital substations, power system operation with a high penetration of renewable energy, and energy storage systems. The two parties signed a minutes of the meeting.
