The 82km 220 kV Hoa Khanh - Hue line running across Lien Chieu, Hoa Vang districts ( Da Nang city), Phu Loc and Huong Thuy districts of Hue city (Thua Thien Hue province) is designed with two circuits (the first was energized on July 15, 2002). This is one among several power transmission projects of Level 1 Energy Work, which is designed to connect the hydropower plants in the Western areas of Quang Nam province and the 500 kV Da Nang substation supplying power for Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. Besides, it is possible to connect this line with A Luoi, Huong Dien, Binh Dien hydropower plants (Thua Thien Hue), Rao Qua hydropower plant and Quang Tri thermal plants.
In addition to the installation of 82 km 220 kV second circuit, PTC2 has installed 30 sets of lightning arresters on the second circuit and newly built a new 220 kV outdoor bay at the 220 kV Hoa Khanh and 220 kV Hue substations.
The project has a total investment of VND 106 billion and is owned by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and managed by the Power Transmission Company (PTC2).
The project of wiring the second circuit of the 220 kV Hoa Khanh – Hue line upon completion shall strengthen the 220 kV grid connection in the Central Coastal provinces, improve 220kV connectivity of the 500 kV Da Nang substation and 500 kV Phong Dien substation (Thua Thien Hue) and at the same time, enhance the transmission capacity from the 500 kV Da Nang substation to the 220 kV Hue and Dong Ha substations in accordance with n-1 requirements, significantly reduce the power loss in the transmission grid and ensure power supply for local socio-economic development in the years to come.
