According to calculations of the power system operation plan for 2025, it is expected that coal-fired power plants will be dispatched at a high level in all load growth scenarios. The Executive Steering Committee for coal supply for electricity generation of Vietnam Electricity, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group, and Northeast Corporation met to discuss proactive solutions to ensure coal supply for electricity generation.
The Executive Steering Committee conference on coal supply for electricity generation was held on November 15 in Quang Ninh, with the chairmanship of Mr. Ngo Son Hai – Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Mr. Nguyen Huy Nam - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (Vinacomin), Colonel Vu Sy Thang - Deputy General Director of Northeast Corporation.
EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai said that EVN, Vinacomin, and Northeast Corporation’s member units have coordinated effectively, ensuring enough coal for power generation in 2024.
Coal thermal power mobilization will be at a high level in 2025
At this conference, EVN, Vinacomin, and Northeast Corporation specifically discussed plans to ensure coal for power generation according to the 2025 power system operation plan.
The Steering Committee for Coal Supply for Power Generation commented that in general, in the base and high scenarios, the need to mobilize coal-fired power plants does not change much and remains high constantly, especially in power plants in the Northern region. Most plants will be dispatched to operate from 6,400 - 6,500 hours in 2025. Thermal power plants are requested to have both fuel and generator units ready from the end of 2024 to meet electricity generation requirements in all situations.
Executive Steering Committee conference on coal supply for electricity generation held on November 15 in Quang Ninh.
Executing the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity, with the spirit of proactively ensuring fuel for electricity generation, since September 2024, thermal power companies under EVN have worked and negotiated with Vinacomin and Northeast Corporation on coal supply contracts for 2025. Up to now, the parties have basically completed negotiations and been submitting to competent authorities to officially sign contracts.
At the conference, leaders of EVN, Vinacomin, and Northeast Corporation agreed that in the coming time, they will keep following the cooperation agreements signed among the parties to provide enough coal to serve electricity generation in the coming time in every situation. The parties will closely coordinate and exchange information to promptly update hydrological developments and power system needs to adjust coal production and supply plans accordingly and improve coal quality.
