Reviewing and accelerating implementation progress of projects serving electricity import from Laos

On May 4, in Hanoi, Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) chaired a meeting to review and accelerate the progress of projects serving electricity import from Laos, including: Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line, Dak Ooc 220kV switchyard and 220kV connection lines. The meeting was held in a hybrid format.

Attending the meeting were EVN’s professional departments, Power Project Management Board No.2, Electric Power Trading Company, and contractors participating in the projects.

At the working session, Power Project Management Board No.2 reported that the site clearance and transfer of all 90 tower positions of the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project have been completed; however, the right-of-way areas have not been cleared and transferred. Regarding construction work, digging of 58 tower foundations have been done; completing concrete casting of 42 tower foundations; completing erection of 27 steel towers; completing pulling lines for 1/27 of spans.

According to the plan, the installation of insulators, accessories, and line pulling of the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project will be completed in August 2024; Acceptance and energization are scheduled in October 2024.

As for the project of Dak Ooc 220kV switchyard and 220kV connection lines, the site of Dak Ooc 220kV switchyard has been transferred; handing over 9/9 foundation positions of 220kV line (4 circuits) and 7/29 positions of 220kV line (2 circuits), 21 foundation positions located in natural forests are undergoing procedures for temporary roads and tree salvage.

97% of the construction volume of Dak Ooc 220kV switchyard has been completed. All equipment of the switchyard has been delivered to the construction site and is being installed by the contractor. In particular, the protective relay control system has gone through calibration experiments, been tested and accepted by power transmission companies, completed calibration testing of primary and secondary equipment, grounding and lightning protection systems, etc.

As for the 220kV transmission line (2 circuits), tower foundation concreting and tower erection have been completed for 7/7 positions without forest interference. Currently, 21 foundation locations entangled with natural forests are undergoing procedures for temporary roads and tree salvage.

Regarding the 220kV transmission line (4 circuits), tower foundation concreting and tower erection have been completed for 9/9 positions, completing the erection of 7/9 steel towers, completing pulling lines in 8/10 spans, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, EVN’s Vice President emphasized that these are key projects serving electricity imports from Laos. Currently, the progress of these projects is very urgent, so contractors are requested to add manpower and machinery, and take advantage of favorable weather conditions from now until August to speed up the construction progress and complete the projects on schedule; properly arranging personnel to coordinate human resources and construction vehicles on the construction sites.
