The successful synchronization of Power unit No.4 – the last power unit of Trung Son Hydropower Plant took place only two months after power unit No.3 being energized. Upon putting all the four power units of Trung Son Hydropower Project into operation, the whole plant will contribute an annual average generation output of 1.018 billion kWh to the national power grid, at the same time the plant will help control floods and irrigations for downstream areas of Ma river. In particular, the project will be a driver for the local economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction process in Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province.
Trung Son Hydropower Project has been assigned by Vietnam Electricity to Trung Son Hydropower One Member Limited Liability Company under Power Generation Corporation 2 to be the project owner. The plant is composed of four power units with the total installed capacity of 260 MW. This is the first hydropower project being financed by the World Bank in Vietnam. It is targeted that Trung Son Hydropower Project can minimize its social and environmental impacts that may be caused by project related construction and operation activities. Especially living conditions of project affected people will be remarkably improved after the project is completed. The project creates environmental benefits, contributes to reducing Green House Gas emission (GHGs) in comparison with other fossil fueled power plants of similar size.
