The Finnish Ambassador in Vietnam and the Fortum Group leader worked with EVN

On May 9, 2019 in Hanoi, EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai welcomed and worked with the Finnish Ambassador in Vietnam - Mr. Kari Kahiluoto and the delegation of Fortum Group (Finland).

According to Ambassador Kari Kahiluoto, this meeting was the next move following the mission of the Finnish Minister of Economy and the business delegation to Vietnam in October 2018.

At the meeting, the Finnish Ambassador in Vietnam expressed his confidence that EVN and Fortum will grasp cooperation opportunities and exploit strengths of the two sides for mutual development. Fortum's Head of Mission, Mr. Juha Suomi, Asia Regional Director - Power Plant Service, said that Fortum would wish to cooperate with EVN in many areas.

Regarding thermal power, Fortum proposed supporting EVN in conducting a non-commercial study to assess emission levels of coal-fired thermal power plants, especially those using obsolete technologies. Accordingly, the study will suggest technical solutions to enhance the environmental protection capacity of these plants.

At the same time, Fortum expected to introduce their technologies and cooperate with EVN in implementing solutions to convert pure coal thermal power plants to mixed fuel power plants. In which, Fortum proposed replacement of at least 5% of coal fuel with biomass fuel to generate electricity. This is a highly feasible solution, which has been successfully applied in coal fired power plants in Finland and some other countries.

Vice President Ngo Son Hai said that EVN would always welcome advanced and environmentally friendly technology solutions. At the same time, he affirmed that EVN would be willing to cooperate with suitable partners in exchanging experiences, transferring technology, improving production – business efficiency and protecting the environment.
