This is also the longest sea-crossing 220kV power line in Southeast Asia. The Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV power line project has a total investment of over VND 2,200 billion, started in March 2019, with a total length of more than 80km, including 169 tower positions, of which 117 tower positions cross the sea offshore.
EVNSPC said that in the process of implementing the construction of the Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV power line, there were many difficulties, such as very harsh sea weather, construction conditions at sea with category 4-5 large waves, frequent storms; during a severe outbreak of COVID-19; Raw material prices soar…
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc – EVNSPC President and CEO, checking the progress of the work and encouraging the construction contractors on the construction site
Besides, the work of compensation and site clearance at Kien Binh shore (Kien Luong district) and Phu Quoc city also faced many difficulties. However, with the attention and support of the leaders of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc city, local departments, and the efforts of the EVNSPC investor, the compensation and site clearance work has now been completed.
Up to now, the overall progress of the whole project has been completed by over 95%. Specifically, the project completed the entire construction of tower foundations and steel tower erection on the sea, as well as the construction of tower foundations and steel tower erection on the Kien Binh shore. At the Phu Quoc shore, 12/13 foundations have been built and 8/13 towers have been erected. For the overhead power line pulling item, nearly 60/64.7 km have been completed, and 12/15.6 km have been completed for the onshore section.
The Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV power line has reached 95% of the progress
Forecasting, Phu Quoc city load demand will increase to about 120MW by the end of 2022 and about 170MW by 2023, exceeding the capacity of power supply from the existing 110kV underground power cable. Therefore, the completion of the Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV power line will ensure a stable and long-term power source, contributing to ensuring a safe and stable power supply for the needs of socio-economic development, recovery; ensuring security, defense, and attracting investment in Phu Quoc city in the coming time.
The Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV power line:
- It is the first sea-crossing 220kV power line in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
- The entire power tower system is manufactured and processed in Vietnam with high-strength steel, hot dipped galvanized, with an outer layer of paint that can withstand the impact of sea salt.
- The pile system is manufactured in Vietnam, in which the foundation is made of reinforced concrete and can withstand the impact of sea waves in all weather conditions.
- The project is designed, managed, built, and constructed by the entire team of Vietnamese engineers and workers.
- All the main building materials of the project are domestically produced by Vietnam.
