Minister Tran Tuan Anh (1st row, 3rd from the right) listening to report on plan for power system operation during Tet holiday by Dispatch department under A0.
Reporting to the Minister on the operation of power system during Tet holiday, Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuong - Director of A0 said that, normally, the demand for power consumption during Lunar New Year would be lower than normal days. Specifically, the power consumption across the country in the holiday was expected to be only about 55-60% of the normal days, particularly the largest load capacity of the system was also low, only accounting for about 40% of the highest capacity of a normal day.
The Minister visiting Electricity Market Department of A0
Particularly, at the beginning of 2020, the difference compared to the same period over previous years is the high proportion of renewable energy sources in the system. With natural characteristics, the solar power sources will generate theirs highest capacity in the time range from 10 am - 1 pm every day. However, this is the time frame with low demand for power consumption. Meanwhile, the proportion of this energy source accounts for about 27% of the system capacity. This is a very high proportion, confirming the role of renewable energy in the system, but solutions should also be ready to limit the potential risks in operating and stabilizing the power system.
Following guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN, A0 has prepared and submitted to EVN for approval a special operation mode during the Lunar New Year, in which the source mobilization configuration has been prepared to ensure a high level of backup (about 200% for North - Central and Central - South connecting lines); getting ready to respond to any single incident occurring on the power system; not performing any tasks affecting power supply and ensuring safe and uninterrupted power supply, serving people throughout the country to celebrate Tet holiday and welcome Lunar New Year.

At the same time, A0 calculated the minimum configuration for slowly-starting sources, to ensure the safe operation for power system in the context of high participation of solar power; reported to Electricity Regulatory Authority, EVN and informed all power source investors the principle of adjusting power sources in case of source redundancy, grid overload; prepared adjustment plans to limit high voltage on the system, etc.
Speaking with the National Load Dispatch Center, Minister Tran Tuan Anh affirmed: In 2019, even though there were many difficulties and challenges in operating the power system, EVN and its units have made great efforts to successfully overfulfill the task of ensuring power supply for the whole country. The glorious achievements of EVN in 2019 were highly recognized and praised by the Party and State leaders.
Visiting Thong Nhat Park 110kV Substation, the Minister highly appreciating modernity and professionalism of Power sector
The stable operation of the power system plays an really important role in the economy as well as people’s life, forming an important foundation for the country to continue developing. Particularly, under the guidance of the Ministry and EVN, A0 has safely and continuously operated the electricity market for nearly 8 years, ensuring the economical aspects as well as fairness and transparency for all units, regardless of public or private units participating in the electricity market. Furthermore, in 2019, A0 in particular, EVN in general safely and stably operated the power system in the context of high participation of renewable energy sources, and took the first steps, gained important experiences for safe and reliable operation for power system when renewable energy sources account for a high proportion in the coming time.
Visiting the Substation (under Hanoi Power Corporation), the Minister of Industry and Trade praised the Corporation for its active grid modernization. This is a 110kV station using technology of gas insulation switchgear (GIS) for both 110kV and 22kV switchgears, with high stability and safety, applied with many automation technologies and remote operations. In particular, the substation ground is much smaller than the traditional substations, with a harmonious architecture, suitable for the narrow conditions in the city as well as the landscape environment of Thong Nhat Park. Being put into operation on schedule which is before 2020’s Lunar New Year, the substation has strengthened ensuring power supply for loads in the city center such as Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung and Dong Da districts, reducing the load for the nearby 110kV substations, etc.
Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh giving gifts to staffs and employees in 110kV Thong Nhat Park substation
The preparation for power supply to the capital in 2020’s Lunar New Year EVNHANOI has been adequately and professionally implemented. Along with Thong Nhat Park 110kV substation, currently, most of 110kV substations of EVNHANOI have been automatically operated on unmanned mode. That showed the strong growth of EVNHANOI in particular, the Power sector in general, Minister Tran Tuan Anh emphasized on and praised the outstanding efforts made by EVNHANOI’s leaders, staffs and employees.
On the occasion of 2020’s Lunar New Year, the Minister of Industry and Trade gave gifts, encouragement and New Year’s greetings to the staffs and employees who are on duty of operation for ensuring power supply at the National Load Dispatch Center and Thong Nhat Park 110kV substation, at the same time, the Minister also kindly requested the leaders, staffs and employees of the Sector to continue making efforts and promoting good traditions to successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party and the State.
